The business in plain English
Resideo Technologies makes and distributes products for comfort, energy use, safety and security in homes and businesses. It became independent in 2018, when Honeywell spun it off by handing Resideo shares to Honeywell's own shareholders. Its products are found in over 150 million homes and commercial spaces. Resideo focuses on about 100,000 professional contractors, installers, dealers and integrators, though it also sells through retailers and online merchants.
In the year ended December 31, 2025, revenue was $7.47 billion across two segments. ADI Global Distribution, the larger one, brought in $4.78 billion, or 64%. It is a wholesaler that sells security and audio-visual equipment from other manufacturers, along with its own exclusive brands, mainly to licensed installers and integrators. Products and Solutions brought in $2.69 billion, or 36%. It makes heating and cooling controls, water and air products, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, security systems and cameras under brands such as Honeywell Home, First Alert, BRK, Braukmann and Resideo. It also sells parts to makers of water heaters, heat pumps and boilers.
The United States supplied 77.9% of 2025 revenue, Europe 14.7% and other countries 7.5%. On July 30, 2025, Resideo announced plans to spin off ADI as a separate public company, tax-free to shareholders. Resideo would then keep only Products and Solutions.

What could go wrong
- ADI spin-off could stall or disappoint. The planned split of ADI Global Distribution may slip or not happen. It costs time and money, may not deliver promised benefits, and would remove the segment behind 64% of fiscal 2025 revenue.
- Preferred shareholder has extra rights and influence. Preferred stock issued to CD&R in the Snap One transaction ranks ahead of common shares and dilutes common holders' votes. CD&R can name up to two directors, and its interests may differ from common shareholders'.
- Large debt load limits flexibility. As of July 4, 2026, Resideo had $3.62 billion of debt and $549 million of cash and investments. Its loan terms can restrict the business, and new money may be costly or hard to raise.
- Installers could bypass the distribution arm. ADI resells products from key suppliers. If those suppliers falter, or installers purchase straight from manufacturers or online retailers, the distribution business's sales and profit margins could shrink.
- Tech giants and do-it-yourself products. Technology, cable and telecom companies compete in smart-home devices and could push prices down. A shift toward do-it-yourself products bought online or in stores could hurt Resideo's professional installer channel.
- Tariffs and an international supply chain. Factories in Mexico, China and Europe, plus ADI's exclusive-brand goods sourced heavily from Asia, expose Resideo to tariffs, trade barriers, parts shortages and swings in copper, steel and semiconductor prices.

For income and retirement investors
Resideo paid no dividends in fiscal 2021 through 2025 and showed no dividend yield as of October 28, 2026. For an income investor, that means any return must come from price gains, and cash only from selling shares. Buybacks (a company purchasing its own shares) totaled $42 million over those five years, and the share count rose 5.2% from October 29, 2021 to August 5, 2026. Fiscal 2025 brought a net loss of $527 million and negative free cash flow (cash left after running and investing in the business) of $1.25 billion.
The shares have swung hard. In the 2020 COVID crash they fell 60.5% from February 28 to March 23, 2020, then recovered by June 16, 2020. In the 2022 market slump they fell 29.2% and took about 26 months to recover, by November 22, 2024. They fell 39.9% in the year to October 28, 2026. A single stock carries more risk than a diversified fund.
Questions investors ask
How does Resideo make money?
Mostly by reselling security and audio-visual equipment to professional installers. In fiscal 2025, its ADI Global Distribution wholesale arm produced $4.78 billion, or 64% of $7.47 billion in revenue. The Products and Solutions segment, which makes heating and cooling controls, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, security products and parts for water heaters and boilers under brands such as Honeywell Home and First Alert, produced $2.69 billion, or 36%. The U.S. supplied 77.9% of revenue.
Is Resideo spinning off ADI Global Distribution?
Yes, Resideo announced the plan on July 30, 2025. It intends to separate ADI Global Distribution into an independent public company through a tax-free distribution of shares to Resideo shareholders, leaving Resideo with Products and Solutions. As of the annual report filed February 24, 2026, the spin-off was not yet complete, and the company warned it might slip or not happen. A company filing dated August 4, 2026 reported a completed acquisition or sale of assets; it is worth checking for the latest status.
Does Resideo pay a dividend?
No. Resideo paid no dividends on its common stock in fiscal 2021 through 2025, and it showed no dividend yield as of October 28, 2026. It returned a little cash through share buybacks (the company purchasing its own stock), $42 million over those five years, while its share count still rose 5.2% between October 29, 2021 and August 5, 2026. Income investors would have to rely on price gains, or on selling shares, for cash.
Is Resideo profitable?
Not on a net basis in fiscal 2025. Resideo reported a net loss of $527 million, or $3.77 per diluted share, on revenue of $7.47 billion, even though operating income (profit from operations before interest and taxes) was $607 million, an 8.1% operating margin. Free cash flow was negative $1.25 billion. The company earned a profit in each of fiscal 2020 through 2024, and it earned $97 million in the quarter ended July 4, 2026, when revenue rose 2% from a year earlier.
How much debt does Resideo have?
About $3.62 billion as of July 4, 2026, against $549 million of cash and investments, leaving net debt (debt minus cash) of roughly $3.07 billion. That compares with shareholders' equity of $3.01 billion and a market capitalization (the total value of its shares) of about $2.78 billion as of October 28, 2026. Resideo warns that its debt terms may restrict its operations and that it may not be able to raise future capital on favorable terms.
