The short version
Simplify Next Intangible Value Index ETF (NXTV) tracks the Next Intangible Value Index: 200 US stocks that look cheap against sector peers once brands, know-how and other intangibles are added to their balance-sheet value. It may suit investors who think standard accounting undervalues companies built on ideas and brands. The catches: net assets were just $1.3 million as of March 31, 2025, and its 0.25% fee tops the 0.22% average of similar funds.

How it works
NXTV aims to track the Next Intangible Value Index, which Eisfeldt Consulting owns and Solactive calculates. The index starts with the 2,000 largest stocks in the Solactive United States 3000 Index. Eisfeldt Consulting's proprietary model estimates each company's intangible capital: productive assets with no physical form, namely brand, knowledge and organization capital. It draws on income statement spending, goodwill and items such as patents, then uses the estimate to adjust book value, a company's net worth on its balance sheet.
The index then picks the 200 stocks that look cheapest against that adjusted book value, compared with sector peers. It weights them by company size (market value), caps each at 5% and spreads any excess across the rest of that sector. Each of 13 custom sectors, from food and consumables to finance, must include at least five stocks where possible. The lineup is refreshed every quarter.
Simplify uses full replication, meaning the fund generally owns every index stock in about the same proportions. As of March 31, 2025, it held 201 positions, no derivatives and essentially no cash. The prospectus reports portfolio turnover of 65%, a rough measure of how much of the portfolio changed over a year. Trading costs from turnover come out of returns but are not part of the 0.25% expense ratio.
What it really costs
- NXTV charges 0.25% a year, versus an average of 0.22% for the similar funds below (7th of 9, cheapest first).
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $26 in the first year and $318 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NXTV | $26 | $80 | $141 | $318 |
In a retirement portfolio
It is a tiny, newer fund making a narrow value bet, with no distributions in the year to October 27, 2026, and a 17.8% drop it had not recovered by then.
NXTV could add a different style of value investing next to a broad stock fund, tilting toward cheap-looking companies such as AT&T, Verizon and Pfizer as of March 31, 2025. Launched in April 2024, it has no record in the 2008 crisis, the 2020 COVID crash or the 2022 bear market. Its only full calendar year, 2025, brought a gain of about 1.7%. Its deepest drop was 17.8%, from November 25, 2024, to April 8, 2025, and it had not regained that peak as of October 27, 2026. It paid no distributions in the 12 months to that date, so cash needed in a slump would have to come from selling shares. It charges 0.25% a year, or $318 over 10 years on $10,000 in the SEC's standard example. Past results don't predict the future, and a retirement plan needs to weigh the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors who want a value tilt that treats brands, research and organizational know-how as assets, using Eisfeldt Consulting's proprietary model.
- Those comfortable with big stakes in telecom and media, with AT&T, Verizon and Comcast each near 5% as of March 31, 2025.
- Investors wanting value stocks spread across 13 sectors, with at least five stocks per sector and a 5% cap on any one stock.
Look elsewhere if
- Anyone needing income: NXTV paid no distributions in the 12 months to October 27, 2026.
- Cost-focused investors: its 0.25% fee ranks 7th lowest of 9 similar funds, versus 0.07% for Vanguard Mid-Cap Value ETF (VOE).
- Those wary of closure or trading-cost risk: net assets were about $1.3 million as of March 31, 2025, smallest of nine similar funds.

Questions investors ask
What index does NXTV track?
NXTV tracks the Next Intangible Value Index, owned by Eisfeldt Consulting and calculated by Solactive. It picks 200 US stocks that look cheap within their sector relative to book value, a company's balance-sheet net worth, after adding an estimate of intangible capital such as brand, knowledge and organization capital. That matters because accounting rules usually treat spending on research or advertising as an expense, not an asset, which can make idea-driven companies look pricier than they are.
What are NXTV's top holdings?
NXTV holds about 200 US stocks picked by the Next Intangible Value Index. As of March 31, 2025, it owned 201 positions, and its 10 largest made up about 34% of assets. The biggest were AT&T (5.3%), Verizon (5.2%), Comcast (5.2%), Pfizer (4.4%) and Intel (3.1%), followed by Target, Dell, Kroger, PepsiCo and PayPal. The list changes when the index is rebuilt each quarter.
What's the difference between NXTV and VLUE?
Both are US value-stock ETFs with about 31% overlap in holdings, based on their latest portfolio reports, but cost, size and results differ. NXTV picks stocks using Eisfeldt Consulting's intangible-adjusted book value. iShares MSCI USA Value Factor ETF (VLUE) charges 0.15% a year versus NXTV's 0.25%, and had about $9.1 billion in net assets as of July 31, 2026, against about $1.3 million for NXTV as of March 31, 2025. Over the year to October 27, 2026, VLUE returned 53.1% and NXTV -0.3%.
Does NXTV pay dividends?
Not in the latest year on record. NXTV made no distributions in the 12 months to October 27, 2026, so its trailing yield, the income paid over the past year divided by the share price, was 0% as of that date. Anyone counting on regular cash from a holding would need to sell shares instead, which can mean selling at low prices during a downturn.
Is NXTV a risky ETF?
Yes, it carries extra risks beyond normal stock-market swings. Its deepest drop was 17.8%, from November 25, 2024, to April 8, 2025, and it had not recovered as of October 27, 2026. Its one-year return to that date, -0.3%, ranked 9th of 9 among similar funds, and its recorded price was unchanged over the final six months. Net assets were only about $1.3 million as of March 31, 2025; very small ETFs can have wide bid-ask spreads (the gap between quoted trading prices) and a higher chance of closing.
