The short version
DoubleLine Fortune 500 Equal Weight ETF (DFVE) tracks the Barclays Fortune 500 Equal Weighted Total Return Index, giving the same weight to each of the largest US public companies by revenue. Picking companies by sales sets it apart from equal-weight funds built on the S&P 500, such as Invesco's RSP, which charges the same 0.20% a year. The trade-off: DFVE is young and small, with $32.3 million in assets as of June 30, 2026.

How it works
DFVE tracks the Barclays Fortune 500 Equal Weighted Total Return Index, run by Barclays Bank PLC. The index starts with the Fortune 500, the 500 largest US companies by revenue. It then removes private companies, stocks not listed on the NYSE or Nasdaq, thinly traded or newly listed shares, companies incorporated abroad, US firms controlled by another company, and companies without full financial statements for at least three quarters of the fiscal year.
Most stock indexes weight companies by market value, so the biggest firms dominate. This one gives every company the same weight at its yearly reconstitution, when the list is refreshed, and at quarterly rebalances. That means trimming stocks that have risen and adding to laggards. Weights drift in between: as of June 30, 2026, the largest position, Optimum Communications, was 0.49% of assets, and the 10 largest made up just 3.19%.
DFVE need not own every index stock. DoubleLine may hold a representative sample, a subset chosen to mirror the index's traits, and may use derivatives such as futures and swaps, or other ETFs. As of June 30, 2026, it had 465 holdings, 99.83% of assets in stocks and no derivatives. It may lend securities worth up to one-third of its total assets to earn extra income, which adds some risk if a borrower defaults.
What it really costs
- DFVE charges 0.2% a year, versus an average of 0.25% for the similar funds below (4th of 9, cheapest first).
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $20 in the first year and $255 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DFVE | $20 | $64 | $113 | $255 |
In a retirement portfolio
It holds hundreds of large US companies in roughly equal amounts for a 0.20% yearly fee, so it could form part of a portfolio's US stock core, though its small size and short history are real limits.
DFVE could add broad US stock exposure less tied to the biggest companies, but its record is short. Launched January 31, 2024, it was not around for the 2008, 2020 or 2022 downturns. Its only full calendar year, 2025, gained 14.27%, so it has no losing calendar year on record. Its deepest drop, 19.4% from November 25, 2024, to April 8, 2025, was recovered by July 2, 2025. Selling near that low to fund spending would have locked in losses.
Income is modest: a 1.38% yield over the year to October 27, 2026, paid quarterly. Its 0.20% expense ratio, the yearly fee, is below the 0.25% average of similar funds. At $32.3 million in assets as of June 30, 2026, it is small and could close if it fails to grow. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors wanting large US stocks without a tilt toward the biggest firms; its top 10 held 3.19% of assets as of June 30, 2026.
- Those drawn to a revenue-based list, which includes retailers such as Kohl's, Wayfair and Dollar Tree alongside tech names like Applied Materials and KLA.
- Investors seeking a low-cost complement to a market-value-weighted index fund, at 0.20% a year, below the 0.25% average of similar funds.
Look elsewhere if
- Fee-focused investors: equal-weight rivals GSEW and EUSA charge 0.09% a year, versus DFVE's 0.20%.
- Those wary of closure risk: DFVE launched in January 2024, held $32.3 million as of June 30, 2026, and could close if it stays small.
- Investors who need sizable income: the yield was 1.38% over the year to October 27, 2026, with payments made quarterly.

Questions investors ask
What does DFVE invest in?
DFVE holds US companies from the Fortune 500, the 500 largest by revenue, after screening out private, foreign-incorporated, thinly traded and controlled-subsidiary firms. It tracks the Barclays Fortune 500 Equal Weighted Total Return Index, which resets each company to the same weight every quarter. As of June 30, 2026, it had 465 holdings. The largest was Optimum Communications at 0.49%, followed by Applied Materials, KLA, Marvell Technology and Dell Technologies, each near 0.3%.
What's the difference between DFVE and RSP?
The main difference is how companies are chosen: DFVE starts from the Fortune 500, ranked by revenue, while RSP equally weights the S&P 500. Both charge 0.20% a year, and about 66% of their holdings overlap. RSP is far larger: $96.5 billion as of July 31, 2026, versus DFVE's $32.3 million as of June 30, 2026. RSP returned 18.3% over one year through October 30, 2026; DFVE returned 15.7% through October 27, 2026. In 2025, DFVE returned 14.27% versus 11.43% for the S&P 500 Equal Weight Index.
Does DFVE pay dividends?
Yes. DFVE pays distributions quarterly, passing along dividends from the stocks it holds. Over the year to October 27, 2026, it paid $0.50 per share, a yield of 1.38%. The fund doesn't use options to boost income, so payouts rise and fall with the dividends its companies pay. That makes it a stock fund with some income, not a high-yield income fund.
Is DFVE good for retirement?
It may fit as part of a retiree's US stock holdings, with caveats. It spreads money roughly evenly across large US companies for 0.20% a year, or $20 in the first year on $10,000 in the SEC's standard example. But it launched on January 31, 2024, so it has no record from the 2008, 2020 or 2022 downturns, and it fell 19.4% between November 25, 2024, and April 8, 2025. With $32.3 million in assets as of June 30, 2026, it could close if it fails to grow.
How has DFVE performed since launch?
DFVE returned 14.27% in 2025 and averaged 15.37% a year from its January 31, 2024 launch through December 31, 2025, according to its prospectus. Its index returned 14.57% and 15.76%, a small gap that reflects fees and trading costs. The S&P 500 Equal Weight Index returned 11.43% and 13.27% over the same periods. Through October 27, 2026, the fund returned 14.9% year to date and 15.7% over one year. Past results don't predict future returns.
