The business in plain English
SolarEdge Technologies makes the electronics that connect solar panels to homes, businesses and the power grid. Its core system has two parts. Inverters turn the direct current (DC) that solar photovoltaic (PV) panels produce into the alternating current (AC) that buildings use. Power Optimizers are small devices fitted to each panel. They tune every panel separately, so one shaded or aging panel does not drag down the rest. They also cut voltage to 1 volt when the inverter shuts off, which protects installers and firefighters.
Many systems also include a home battery, electric vehicle (EV) chargers and SolarEdge ONE, energy management software that comes with the hardware. SolarEdge sells mainly to solar installers. It reaches thousands of them through large distributors and electrical wholesalers. It also sells directly to big installers and to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firms. Its products go into home, commercial and small utility-scale solar projects.
SolarEdge reports one business segment. In the year ended December 31, 2025, revenue was $1.18 billion. Power Optimizers brought in 41.4%, inverters 28.2% and batteries for solar systems 24.1%. The US supplied 60.6% of sales, Europe excluding the Netherlands 26.8%, and other regions 12.5%. The company has also discontinued its e-Mobility, energy storage systems and PV tracker (sun-following panel mount) businesses.

What could go wrong
- Big losses after a collapse in sales. SolarEdge lost $1.81 billion in 2024 and $405 million in 2025. Revenue fell from $2.98 billion in 2023 to $901 million in 2024. Its annual report lists future profitability as a key risk.
- Conflict and tax risks in Israel. SolarEdge has operations in Israel. Its annual report warns the conflict there could limit its ability to develop, produce and sell products. Israeli tax benefits could also be cut, raising its taxes.
- Few contract manufacturers and key suppliers. A few outside contract manufacturers build its products, and some key parts come from limited or single suppliers. Problems there, or trouble ramping up new manufacturers, could disrupt supply and sales.
- Strong rivals and reliance on distributors. Competitors sell rival optimizers, inverters, batteries and monitoring products. SolarEdge relies on distributors and large installers to sell its gear, so their weak performance or mergers among them could cut sales.
- Changes to US tax laws and tariffs. The US provided 60.6% of 2025 revenue. Changes to tax laws such as the Inflation Reduction Act and H.R.1, higher import tariffs, or utility regulations could reduce demand or raise costs.
- Swings in solar demand. Solar sales move in boom-and-bust cycles. Higher interest rates make systems costlier for buyers to finance, and cheaper grid electricity weakens the case for solar. The company warns demand may not resume growth.

For income and retirement investors
SolarEdge pays no dividend. It paid none from 2021 through 2025, so there is no dividend record or streak of increases to judge. For an income investor, any return would come only from share price gains, and raising cash would mean selling shares. Buybacks have been small: $50.2 million in 2024 and none in 2025. Over the same stretch, the share count rose 17.1%, from about 52.5 million in October 2021 to about 61.5 million in August 2026. That thins each holder's stake.
The share price has fallen hard in downturns. In the 2020 COVID crash it fell 51.1% but recovered by June 1, 2020. In the 2022 bear market (a market fall of 20% or more), it dropped 45.1% from its August 2022 peak. It had not returned to that level as of October 28, 2026. Its deepest decline in 11.6 years of trading history was 97.2%. Single stocks carry more risk than diversified funds.
Questions investors ask
How does SolarEdge make money?
SolarEdge makes money mainly by selling solar power electronics. In the year ended December 31, 2025, Power Optimizers brought in 41.4% of its $1.18 billion revenue. These are devices fitted to each solar panel. Inverters, which convert panel power into household electricity, added 28.2%, and batteries for solar systems 24.1%. It sells mostly through distributors and electrical wholesalers to thousands of installers, and directly to large installers. Its SolarEdge ONE management software comes as part of the hardware sale.
Does SolarEdge pay a dividend?
No. SolarEdge does not pay a dividend and paid none from 2021 through 2025, so there is no dividend yield or record of increases. Its only cash return to shareholders in that period was $50.2 million of buybacks, all in 2024. Over the same stretch, its share count rose 17.1% between October 2021 and August 2026. Anyone wanting regular income from this stock would need to sell shares.
Is SolarEdge profitable?
No. SolarEdge lost $405 million in the year ended December 31, 2025, after a $1.81 billion loss in 2024. Its gross margin, the share of sales left after production costs, was 16.6%, and its operating margin was -25.5%. There were some better signs. Revenue grew 31.4% in 2025, and free cash flow (cash from operations after capital spending) was positive at $80.8 million. In the quarter ended June 30, 2026, it posted a net loss of $30.8 million on revenue up 19.6% from a year earlier.
Why did SolarEdge stock drop so much?
The stock fell about 67% in 2023 and about 85% in 2024 as results collapsed. Net income dropped from $442 million in 2022 to $34 million in 2023. Then revenue fell from $2.98 billion to $901 million in 2024, with a $1.81 billion loss. The annual report lists swings in solar demand, interest rates and competition among its risks. Shares rose 112% in 2025 but were still down 92% over the five years to October 28, 2026.
How much debt does SolarEdge have?
SolarEdge had more cash than debt as of June 30, 2026. It held $546.9 million in cash and investments against $332.3 million of total debt, leaving net cash of about $214.6 million. That cushion matters because the company posted net losses in 2024 and 2025. Free cash flow turned positive at $80.8 million in 2025 after three negative years.
