How it works
Capital Group Dividend Growers ETF does not track an index. Capital Group manages it actively, aiming for long-term total return (price gains plus dividends). Managers seek companies worldwide that may offer both current yield and dividend growth. They weigh each company's dividend yield, dividend history and their own forecast of dividend growth, based on its financial health. Normally at least 80% of assets are in stocks and at least 80% in dividend-paying companies.
A significant portion is invested outside the United States, including emerging markets (developing economies). The adviser generally relies on index provider MSCI to decide where a company is based. As of August 31, 2026, US companies made up about 48% of assets, and the largest holdings were Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, Broadcom and Philip Morris International.
The portfolio is split into segments, each run by a separate manager. No formula sets position sizes, and a stock may be sold once it no longer looks relatively attractive. The prospectus filed July 31, 2026 lists turnover of 41%, a rough gauge of how much of the portfolio is traded in a year. As a nondiversified fund, it may concentrate in fewer companies; on August 31, 2026, it held 103 holdings, with the top 10 at about 25% of assets, and no derivatives.
What it really costs
- CGDG charges 0.47% a year, versus an average of 0.2% for the similar funds below (7th of 7, cheapest first).
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $48 in the first year and $591 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CGDG | $48 | $151 | $263 | $591 |
In a retirement portfolio
It is an actively managed fund holding about 100 dividend-paying stocks worldwide, so it could anchor the stock part of a portfolio, though its track record is short.
CGDG could serve as a single stock holding that spreads money across about 100 dividend-paying companies in the US and abroad. It launched in September 2023, so it has no record in the 2008, 2020 or 2022 downturns. Its weakest calendar year so far, 2024, was still a gain of 11.21%. Its deepest drop was 10.5%, from February 13 to April 8, 2025, and it had recovered by May 2, 2025. That was a short, mild test. A deeper bear market could hurt more, and selling shares to raise cash during one would lock in losses. The trailing 12-month yield was 2.28% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly. At 0.47% a year, the fund costs more than similar funds, which averaged about 0.20%. Past results don't predict the future, and any plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors who want one fund holding dividend-paying stocks worldwide. As of August 31, 2026, about half was outside the US.
- People who prefer managers choosing stocks over a fixed index, and who accept a 0.47% expense ratio for that.
- Holders who want modest quarterly income. The trailing 12-month yield was 2.28% as of October 27, 2026.
Look elsewhere if
- Cost-focused investors. Similar funds charge less: VIGI 0.10%, HDEF 0.09%, compared with CGDG's 0.47%.
- Anyone who wants a long track record. CGDG launched September 26, 2023, and missed the 2008, 2020 and 2022 sell-offs.
- Investors who want only US stocks. About half the fund is abroad, including emerging markets, with Taiwan Semiconductor as its largest holding.

Questions investors ask
Is CGDG good for retirement income?
CGDG pays some income, but it is not a high-yield fund. Its trailing 12-month yield was 2.28% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly. The fund's stated goal is long-term total return, meaning price growth plus dividends. Its managers favor companies that can raise their dividends over time. The prospectus warns that income can fall if those companies cut their dividends or have less cash to pay them.
What's the difference between CGDG and CGDV?
Both are actively managed Capital Group dividend ETFs, but they share only about 24% of their holdings. CGDV is cheaper at 0.33% a year, compared with 0.47% for CGDG, and much larger, with about $38.7 billion in assets versus $5.7 billion. CGDG puts a significant share outside the US, including emerging markets. As of late October 2026, CGDV returned 16.2% over one year and 26.6% a year over three years. CGDG returned 10.3% and 19.1%.
How much does CGDG cost?
CGDG's expense ratio is 0.47% a year, according to its prospectus filed July 31, 2026. That is the highest of seven similar funds, which averaged about 0.20%. The SEC's standard example assumes $10,000 invested with a 5% yearly return. On that basis, costs would total about $48 after one year, $151 after three years, $263 after five and $591 after ten.
How often does CGDG pay dividends?
CGDG pays dividends quarterly. Over the 12 months through October 27, 2026, it paid about $0.87 per share, a trailing yield of 2.28%. Payments can vary from quarter to quarter. They depend on what the fund's roughly 100 holdings pay out, and many of those companies are outside the US, where dividends are often paid on different schedules.
How has CGDG performed since it launched?
CGDG has had positive returns in each full calendar year so far. Its prospectus reports 11.21% for 2024 and 23.33% for 2025, and an average of 19.87% a year from launch through December 31, 2025. Based on price, it returned 10.3% over the year ending October 27, 2026, the lowest of seven similar funds. Its deepest drop was 10.5%, in early 2025, and it recovered in under a month.
