The business in plain English
SiTime (SITM) makes timing chips, the heartbeat of electronics. They send clock signals that keep processors, communication chips and radio parts in step. Traditional suppliers use quartz crystals. SiTime builds in silicon using MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems, tiny vibrating structures). It sells resonators (the vibrating part that sets the beat), oscillators (a resonator paired with control circuitry), clock chips and synchronization software. It estimates the total timing market at about $11 billion.
Its parts are designed into more than 400 applications, including AI systems, data centers, communications gear, cars, industrial equipment and mobile devices. SiTime sells mainly through distributors, which resell to device makers. It also makes some direct and online sales. It is fabless, meaning outside factories make its chips. Revenue reached $326.7 million in 2025, up 61.2%, helped by demand from AI data centers. Apple, its largest end customer, accounted for about 17%. The 10-K gives no clean split by product or region, but oscillators have historically made up most sales.
In December 2023 SiTime bought clock products from Aura Semiconductor for about $148 million plus up to $120 million in earnouts (payments tied to later results). On February 4, 2026, it agreed to buy Renesas's timing business assets for about $1.5 billion in cash plus 4.13 million shares. A July 1, 2026 filing reported a completed acquisition.

What could go wrong
- A few customers drive most sales. Apple made up about 17% of fiscal 2025 revenue, and the ten largest end customers about 65%. SiTime usually lacks long-term purchase commitments, so a big buyer could cut orders with little notice.
- Big Renesas deal adds debt and risk. SiTime agreed to pay about $1.5 billion in cash plus 4.13 million shares for Renesas's timing assets. Debt totaled $1.32 billion as of June 30, 2026. Absorbing a deal that size could disrupt operations.
- Must keep winning new designs. Sales depend on customers designing SiTime parts into new products, often after lengthy, costly qualification testing that does not guarantee orders. Customers who find existing quartz-based parts good enough may not switch.
- Boom-and-bust chip cycles. Chip demand swings sharply. In 2023, as customers worked down inventory, SiTime's revenue fell to $144.0 million from $283.6 million in 2022, and it posted net losses in 2023 and 2024.
- Relies on outside chip factories. SiTime is fabless: outside firms make, package and test its chips. Too many faulty chips or capacity shortages in industry upturns could delay shipments and squeeze margins.
- More shares, and a few big holders. Share count rose 56.2% between October 2021 and August 2026, shrinking each owner's slice. FMR held 15% (March 31, 2026) and MegaChips 13.1% (December 31, 2025); large sales could hurt the price.

For income and retirement investors
SiTime paid no dividends and bought back no shares in fiscal 2021 through 2025. For an income investor, that means no cash payments. The only way to draw money from the stock is to sell shares at the market price. The share count did not shrink. It grew 56.2%, from about 19.3 million in October 2021 to about 30.1 million in August 2026, which spreads ownership more thinly.
The stock has swung hard in downturns. In the 2020 COVID crash it fell 46.1%, then regained its high within about two months. In the 2022 bear market it dropped 73.4% by October 12, 2022, and did not regain its earlier high until September 18, 2025. Over the year to October 28, 2026, its beta was 2.98, meaning it tended to move about three times as much as the overall market. It also fell 49% from peak to trough. Single stocks like SiTime carry more risk than diversified funds.
Questions investors ask
How does SiTime make money?
SiTime makes money by selling timing chips that keep electronic systems in sync. Its resonators and oscillators use MEMS (tiny vibrating silicon structures) instead of quartz. It also sells clock chips and synchronization software. These parts go into AI systems, data centers, communications gear, cars, industrial and defense equipment, and mobile devices. SiTime sells mostly through distributors, and outside factories make its chips. Revenue was $326.7 million in fiscal 2025, up 61.2%, helped by AI data center demand.
Does SiTime pay a dividend?
No. SiTime paid no dividends and bought back no shares in fiscal 2021 through 2025. Its share count grew 56.2% between October 2021 and August 2026. Anyone holding the stock for income would need to sell shares to raise cash. Returns depend entirely on the share price, which fell 73.4% in the 2022 bear market.
Is SiTime profitable?
Not for fiscal 2025, its latest full year. SiTime lost $42.9 million that year, a smaller loss than the $93.6 million it lost in 2024. It did produce $35.1 million of free cash flow (cash from operations minus capital spending). Its gross margin, the share of sales left after production costs, was 53.6%. In the quarter ended June 30, 2026, it reported net income of $18.2 million on revenue of $157.4 million, up 126.5% from a year earlier.
Who is SiTime's biggest customer?
Apple was SiTime's largest end customer (the company that builds the chips into its products) in fiscal 2025, at about 17% of revenue, down from about 22% in 2024. SiTime sells to Apple through distributors under a development and supply agreement. Sales are concentrated more broadly too. The ten largest end customers made up about 65% of 2025 revenue, and the top three distributors about 59%. Losing a big customer, or a sharp cut in its orders, could hit revenue hard.
What did SiTime agree to buy from Renesas?
Assets of Renesas Electronics' timing business. On February 4, 2026, SiTime agreed to pay about $1.5 billion in cash plus 4.13 million SiTime shares, subject to adjustments. Wells Fargo committed up to $900 million in a 364-day bridge loan (short-term debt used until longer-term funding is arranged). A July 1, 2026 filing reported a completed acquisition, new debt and newly issued shares. As of June 30, 2026, SiTime had $1.32 billion of debt and $1.92 billion of cash and investments.
