The short version
Calamos Antetokounmpo Global Sustainable Equities ETF (SROI) is an actively managed fund of about 120 growth-oriented stocks from around the world. It screens out industries such as fossil fuels, weapons and tobacco. Its adviser is co-owned by Calamos and, indirectly, by athlete Giannis Antetokounmpo. It may appeal to values-minded investors who want global stocks, but its 0.95% expense ratio (annual fee) is well above the 0.23% average for eight funds with similar holdings.

How it works
SROI is actively managed and does not track an index. The investment team at Calamos Advisors LLC picks stocks it believes have above-average growth potential and meet its sustainability standards. Under normal conditions, at least 80% of net assets is in stocks from developed markets, including the US. Stocks from emerging markets and less-developed frontier markets also count, using MSCI's country classifications. At least 40% goes outside the US (30% when conditions are judged unfavorable), spread across at least five countries.
Along with traditional financial analysis, each candidate goes through a three-step sustainability review. First, the team generally excludes companies earning more than 5% of revenue or profits from fossil fuels, weapons, tobacco, alcohol, gambling, nuclear energy, metals and mining, or agricultural biotechnology. Animal testing is judged case by case. Second, it uses third-party tools to identify the environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues that matter most in each industry. Third, it scores companies on environmental and social impact. The aim is high-quality growth companies with lasting competitive advantages.
With no index, the team sets position sizes and decides when to trade. Portfolio turnover (the share of holdings replaced in a year) was 15%. The fund owns stocks directly, without leverage or derivatives. As of July 31, 2026, it held 120 stocks, with 31.81% in the top 10. Alphabet (6.29%), NVIDIA (4.37%) and Microsoft (3.85%) led the list.
What it really costs
- SROI charges 0.95% a year, versus an average of 0.23% for the similar funds below (9th of 9, cheapest first).
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $97 in the first year and $1,166 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SROI | $97 | $303 | $525 | $1,166 |
In a retirement portfolio
Its 120 global stocks give broad exposure, but a 0.95% fee, $18.8 million in assets as of July 31, 2026, a record that starts in 2023 and values-based screens point to a smaller supporting slice.
SROI launched on February 3, 2023, so it missed the 2008, 2020 and 2022 downturns. Its worst full calendar year so far, 2024, still gained 9.65%. Its deepest drop, 15.4%, ran from September 26, 2024 to April 8, 2025, and was erased by May 15, 2025. That short record says little about a long slump. Its beta of 1.05 means it moved slightly more than the broad market in the year to October 27, 2026. That suggests little cushion for anyone drawing money in a bad year.
It is not built for income: the yield was 0.54% as of October 27, 2026, paid once a year. Its 0.95% expense ratio is well above the 0.23% similar-fund average. The SEC's standard example puts costs at $1,166 over 10 years on $10,000. Past results don't predict future ones, and a plan should weigh the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors who want a manager to screen out companies earning over 5% from fossil fuels, weapons, tobacco, alcohol, gambling or nuclear energy.
- Those wanting global reach in one fund: about 57% was in US stocks on July 31, 2026, with Japan, the UK and France next.
- Investors comfortable with a tilt toward big tech and chip stocks: Alphabet, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Apple and Taiwan Semiconductor led holdings on July 31, 2026.
Look elsewhere if
- Cost-conscious investors: similar funds charge 0.07% to 0.44% versus SROI's 0.95%, and its three-year return ranked last of 7 as of October 27, 2026.
- Income seekers: the yield was 0.54% as of October 27, 2026, about $0.20 per share, paid once a year.
- Anyone wary of small, young funds: $18.8 million in assets on July 31, 2026, a 2023 launch, and key-person risk tied to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Questions investors ask
Is the SROI ETF run by Giannis Antetokounmpo?
He indirectly co-owns the fund's adviser, but the prospectus gives stock picking to the investment team at Calamos Advisors LLC. The adviser is jointly owned and controlled by Calamos Advisors LLC and, indirectly, by Giannis Sina Ugo Antetokounmpo, described as a well-known professional athlete. The prospectus flags this as a key-person risk. Events such as his death, damage to his reputation or a business dispute could end his involvement with the adviser.
What is the expense ratio of SROI?
SROI's expense ratio, its annual fee as a share of assets, is 0.95%. All of it is management fee, with no waiver, according to the prospectus filed November 21, 2025. The SEC's standard example assumes $10,000 invested and a 5% annual return. On that basis, costs come to $97 after one year, $525 after five years and $1,166 after 10. Eight funds with overlapping holdings averaged 0.23%, from 0.07% for Vanguard Mega Cap ETF to 0.44% for Neuberger Berman Growth ETF.
What's the difference between SROI and ESGU?
ESGU, the iShares ESG Aware MSCI USA ETF, is a far larger and cheaper ESG (environmental, social and governance) fund. As its name says, it holds US stocks. SROI is actively managed and normally keeps at least 40% outside the US. ESGU charges 0.15% versus SROI's 0.95%. It held $18.1 billion on August 31, 2026, against SROI's $18.8 million on July 31, 2026. Their holdings overlap by 32%. ESGU returned 12.1% over one year through October 30, 2026, and SROI returned 9.8% through October 27, 2026.
Does SROI pay dividends?
Yes, but very little. SROI pays once a year. Its trailing 12-month yield (income paid over the past year as a share of the price) was 0.54% as of October 27, 2026, or about $0.20 per share. That fits its stated goal of long-term capital appreciation, meaning growth in share value, rather than income. Its strategy targets companies with above-average growth potential. Retirees who rely on regular payouts would get little from this fund on its own.
How has SROI performed since it launched?
It has made money but trailed most similar funds. In official prospectus figures, SROI returned 9.65% in 2024, its first full calendar year. It averaged 8.9% a year from its February 3, 2023 launch through December 31, 2024. Based on market prices, it gained 16.37% in 2025 and 10.93% in 2026 through October 27. It averaged 18.3% a year over the three years to that date, which ranked last of seven similar funds. Its one-year return of 9.8% ranked 6th of 9.
