The business in plain English
Ralliant makes precision instruments and highly engineered products that engineers use to design, test, monitor and protect advanced technology. Its customers include chip companies, hyperscalers (the giant cloud-computing firms), defense and space contractors, utilities, automakers, electronics makers and universities. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, it has about 7,000 employees and more than 90,000 customers in over 90 countries. Fortive spun it off as a separate company on June 28, 2025.
Sensors and Safety Systems is the larger of its two segments. It brought in $1.27 billion, or 61%, of the $2.07 billion in revenue for the year ended December 31, 2025. It makes monitoring equipment for power grid assets such as transformers. It also makes ignition safety systems and precision pyrotechnic devices for defense and space, and sensors for demanding settings such as food and beverage production and healthcare. Test and Measurement, the other 39%, offers oscilloscopes (devices that display electrical signals), probes, semiconductor test systems, high-power supplies and analysis software. Its brands include Tektronix, Keithley Instruments and EA Elektro-Automatik.
Ralliant earns money from these products and from servicing them, through a mix of sales channels that includes distributors. It holds about 2,200 active patents and employs over 1,300 engineers. The United States made up 51% of fiscal 2025 revenue, China about 15% and the rest of the world about 34%.

What could go wrong
- More goodwill writedowns are possible. Ralliant took a $1.44 billion non-cash goodwill charge for the year ended December 31, 2025, mainly on reduced expectations for its EA Elektro-Automatik business. Goodwill, the premium paid for acquisitions, could be written down again.
- Short history apart from Fortive. Ralliant has been independent only since June 2025. It depends on transition agreements with Fortive, and must limit some deals and fundraising for two years after the spin-off to avoid large tax bills.
- Tariffs and exposure to China. Ralliant says tariffs have already hurt results and are expected to keep doing so. Nearly half of fiscal 2025 revenue came from outside the US, including about 15% from China.
- Debt could limit flexibility. Ralliant paid Fortive $1.15 billion in cash at the spin-off. As of July 3, 2026, debt was about $1.15 billion against $271 million of cash and investments, which could squeeze dividends and buybacks.
- Spending swings at key customers. Demand depends on equipment budgets at chipmakers, electronics firms, utilities and defense programs. Slowdowns, budget cuts or government shutdowns can mean fewer orders and more cancellations. Quarterly results also swing with seasonal purchasing.
- Keeping pace with technology and rivals. Engineers need instruments that keep up with new chips and communications standards. If Ralliant's new products arrive late or miss the mark, competitors could win share or force price cuts.

For income and retirement investors
Ralliant pays a small dividend. Payments began after the June 2025 spin-off from Fortive and totaled $0.10 per share, or $11.3 million, in fiscal 2025. That was about 3% of the year's $358 million of free cash flow (cash left after costs and equipment spending). Because a $1.44 billion non-cash writedown produced a net loss, the dividend can't be measured against profit. The yield was 0.29% as of October 28, 2026, with no dividend increases on record. No buybacks were reported through fiscal 2025, though the share count fell 1.9% between August 2025 and July 2026.
Ralliant shares were not trading during the 2008, 2020 or 2022 market slumps, so there is no record of how they behave in a crash. Their deepest drop from a peak, through October 28, 2026, was about 17%. For income investors, the low yield means returns depend mostly on the share price. Single stocks carry more risk than diversified funds.
Questions investors ask
How does Ralliant make money?
Ralliant earns its revenue from precision instruments, sensors and safety systems, plus related software and service. For the year ended December 31, 2025, its Sensors and Safety Systems segment produced 61% of its $2.07 billion in revenue. That segment includes power grid monitoring and ignition safety systems for defense and space. Test and Measurement, which makes oscilloscopes and semiconductor test systems under brands such as Tektronix and Keithley Instruments, produced 39%. About 51% of revenue came from the United States and about 15% from China.
Is Ralliant a spin-off from Fortive?
Yes. Fortive spun off its Precision Technologies segment as Ralliant on June 28, 2025. Fortive shareholders received one Ralliant share for every three Fortive shares. Ralliant began regular trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker RAL on June 30, 2025. As part of the split, Ralliant paid Fortive $1.15 billion in cash. The two companies also signed transition agreements, and tax rules limit some Ralliant deals and fundraising for two years after the spin-off.
Does Ralliant pay a dividend?
Yes, but it is small. Ralliant began paying dividends after its June 2025 spin-off from Fortive and paid $0.10 per share for fiscal 2025, about $11.3 million in total. That used only about 3% of the year's free cash flow (cash left after costs and equipment spending). The dividend yield was 0.29% as of October 28, 2026. There are no dividend increases on record yet, and the company warns it cannot guarantee future dividends or their timing or amount.
Why did Ralliant lose money in 2025?
Mostly because of one large accounting charge. For the year ended December 31, 2025, Ralliant recorded a $1.44 billion non-cash goodwill impairment, or writedown, in Test and Measurement. The main reason was lower expectations for its EA Elektro-Automatik business. Goodwill is the premium paid for acquired businesses. The charge pushed Ralliant to a net loss of $1.22 billion on revenue of $2.07 billion, down 4%. Free cash flow stayed positive at $358 million. In the quarter ended July 3, 2026, net income was $57.2 million.
How much debt does Ralliant have?
Ralliant had about $1.15 billion of debt as of July 3, 2026, against $271 million of cash and investments. That left net debt (debt minus cash) of about $878 million. The company reported new debt obligations in filings dated November 25, 2025 and March 31, 2026. It warns that its debt could limit its ability to pay dividends and repurchase shares. For comparison, free cash flow was $358 million for fiscal 2025.
