How it works

QQMG follows the Nasdaq-100 ESG Index, which is built and maintained by Nasdaq, Inc. The index starts with the Nasdaq-100: 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market. That list includes some foreign firms through American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), which are US-traded certificates for foreign shares. Financial companies, REITs and SPACs are not eligible.

Nasdaq then screens these companies using data from Sustainalytics, an ESG research firm. Any involvement in military weapons, controversial weapons, tobacco manufacturing, oil sands, shale or Arctic oil and gas means exclusion. Companies are also removed if they earn more than a small amount, generally 5% of revenue, from areas such as gambling, alcohol, thermal coal or oil and gas. So are companies with a "severe" ESG risk rating of 40 or higher, the top controversy score of 5, or a breach of UN Global Compact principles. Every company that passes is included. The index had 91 members as of October 31, 2025.

Weights start from market capitalization (a company's total stock market value) and are adjusted by a formula that also considers each company's ESG risk score. The fund uses full replication, meaning it generally buys all the stocks in the index, and keeps at least 90% of assets in them. Portfolio turnover was 9%. As of August 31, 2026, it held 88 stocks, and the top 10 made up about 50% of assets.

What it really costs

  • QQMG charges 0.2% a year, versus an average of 0.13% for the similar funds below (7th of 9, cheapest first).
  • Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $20 in the first year and $255 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
Cost of $10,000 (SEC example)1 yr3 yrs5 yrs10 yrs

In a retirement portfolio

RoleSatellite (higher risk)

Its concentrated, technology-heavy portfolio lost 31.61% in 2022, so it fits better as a smaller growth position next to broader holdings than as a foundation.

QQMG launched in October 2021, so it has no record through the 2008 financial crisis or the 2020 COVID crash. It did live through the 2022 bear market. The prospectus shows a 31.61% loss that calendar year, its worst so far. Price data starts in October 2022. Since then, its deepest drop was 22.8%, from February 19 to April 8, 2025. It regained its peak by June 24, 2025, about two and a half months later. Someone forced to sell shares in a year like 2022 would have locked in steep losses. It pays little income: the trailing yield was 0.34% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly. The 0.20% expense ratio is modest but above QQQM's 0.15%. Past results don't predict future ones, and a retirement plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.

Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere

May suit

  • Investors who want Nasdaq-100 growth stocks but prefer to leave out weapons makers, tobacco producers and companies with severe ESG risk ratings.
  • Long-term holders comfortable with technology at 58.8% of assets and swings like the 31.61% loss in 2022 and 55.34% gain in 2023.
  • Those wanting a small growth position alongside broader funds, given its 88 stocks and a top 10 making up about half of assets.

Look elsewhere if

  • Investors who need portfolio income: the trailing yield was just 0.34% as of October 27, 2026.
  • Cost-focused investors who don't need ESG screens. QQQM tracks the full Nasdaq-100 for 0.15% a year versus QQMG's 0.20%.
  • Those seeking broad diversification: the fund excludes financials, holds 2.1% in health care and is non-diversified, with NVIDIA alone at 10.6%.

Questions investors ask

What's the difference between QQMG and QQQM?

QQMG holds a screened subset of the Nasdaq-100. QQQM, also from Invesco, tracks the full Nasdaq-100 Index. QQMG drops companies that fail Nasdaq's ESG screens and adjusts weights using ESG risk scores. Their holdings overlap by about 90%. QQQM costs 0.15% a year versus 0.20% for QQMG. It is also far larger: about $104 billion in net assets versus about $200 million for QQMG, both as of August 31, 2026.

Does QQMG pay dividends?

Yes, but not much. QQMG pays dividends quarterly. Its trailing 12-month yield was 0.34% as of October 27, 2026, or about $0.17 per share. The low yield comes from its holdings. Large technology companies such as NVIDIA, Apple and Microsoft tend to reinvest most of their profits rather than pay large dividends. Investors who need meaningful income would have to get it from other holdings or by selling shares.

What is QQMG's expense ratio?

QQMG's expense ratio is 0.20% a year, with no fee waiver, according to the prospectus filed December 18, 2025. The SEC's standard example assumes $10,000 invested, a 5% annual return and shares sold at the end of each period. On that basis, costs come to about $20 after one year, $113 after five years and $255 after ten. That matches QQQ but is above QQQM's 0.15% and the 0.13% average of similar funds.

How did QQMG do in 2022?

Poorly. QQMG lost 31.61% in calendar 2022, according to its prospectus. Its worst quarter was a 22.21% drop in the three months ended June 30, 2022. It then gained 55.34% in 2023 and 25.45% in 2024. These large swings come from its heavy weighting in technology stocks, which made up 58.8% of the portfolio as of August 31, 2026.

What companies does QQMG exclude?

QQMG excludes Nasdaq-100 companies that fail Nasdaq's ESG rules, which rely on data from Sustainalytics. Any involvement in military weapons, controversial weapons, tobacco manufacturing, oil sands or shale energy means exclusion. Companies earning more than a small share of revenue, generally 5%, from gambling, alcohol, thermal coal or oil and gas are also removed. So are companies with a severe ESG risk rating, the top controversy score or breaches of UN Global Compact principles.
