The short version

Invesco Bloomberg Pricing Power ETF (POWA) holds 50 US large- and mid-sized companies picked by the Bloomberg Pricing Power Index because their gross profit margins stayed steady over five years. Each stock gets an equal weight. What sets it apart is its screen for stable margins and lower debt, rather than weighting by company size. How it works

Invesco's POWA is an index fund tracking the Bloomberg Pricing Power Index, compiled by Bloomberg Index Services Limited. It generally keeps at least 80% of its total assets in the index's stocks. The index seeks U.S. large- and mid-sized companies whose gross profit margins (the share of sales left after direct costs) have held steady. It treats that as a sign of pricing power: the ability to raise prices without losing customers.

To qualify, a stock must be in Bloomberg's U.S. large- or mid-cap universe and average at least $10 million in daily trading over 90 days. Four screens follow, in order: positive net profit margins in each of the past five years; a spot among its sector's 50 largest companies; staying out of its sector's most indebted 10%, measured against market value; and finally, ranking among the 50 stocks whose gross margins varied least over five years.

The 50 stocks are equally weighted, so Microsoft starts with the same weight as Tractor Supply. As of August 31, 2026, Roper Technologies and Mettler-Toledo were among the largest positions at about 2.5% each; the top 10 totaled about 24%. The fund generally owns every index stock directly. Portfolio turnover was 91%, meaning heavy trading, with costs on top of the 0.40% expense ratio.

What it really costs

  • POWA charges 0.4% a year, versus an average of 0.41% for the similar funds below (4th of 7, cheapest first).
  • Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $41 in the first year and $505 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
Cost of $10,000 (SEC example)1 yr3 yrs5 yrs10 yrs
POWA$41$128$224$505

In a retirement portfolio

RoleSatellite (higher risk)

It is a 50-stock, equal-weighted tilt toward one factor (stable margins), so it fits best alongside a broad core fund rather than replacing one.

POWA could add a quality tilt next to a broad stock fund, but it still falls with the market. It dropped 19.8% in the first quarter of 2020, then gained 15.19% the next quarter and ended 2020 up 7.46%. It lost 7.59% in 2022, its weakest calendar year from 2015 through 2024. In price data starting August 2023, its deepest drop was 15%, from December 4, 2024 to April 8, 2025. It recovered by July 1, 2025, in about three months. Figures for 2008 aren't available. Someone withdrawing money during a drop like early 2020 would lock in losses.

Income is small: the trailing yield was 0.93% as of October 27, 2026, paid once a year. Under the SEC's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost $41 in the first year. Past results don't predict future returns, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.

Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere

May suit

  • Investors wanting an equal-weighted mix of 50 US companies with steady margins, such as Roper, Mettler-Toledo and Cencora, alongside a broad index fund.
  • Those who prefer a fund that has moved less than the market: its one-year beta (sensitivity to market swings) was 0.55 as of October 27, 2026.
  • Investors willing to pay 0.40% a year for a rules-based quality screen with a 9.74% average annual return over the 10 years through December 31, 2024.

Look elsewhere if

  • Income seekers: the trailing yield was just 0.93% as of October 27, 2026, and the fund pays only once a year.
  • Cost-focused investors: DGRO charges 0.08%, and POWA ranked last of seven similar funds on one-year return as of October 27, 2026.
  • Those wanting big stakes in the largest tech giants: equal weighting held Microsoft near 2.3% as of August 31, 2026, and 91% turnover means frequent changes.

Questions investors ask

Does POWA pay dividends?

Yes, but not much, and only once a year. As of October 27, 2026, its trailing 12-month yield was 0.93%, or about $0.85 per share. That makes POWA a stock fund aimed at quality and growth rather than income. Someone who needs regular cash from their portfolio would have to rely mostly on other holdings or on withdrawing money from investments.

What stocks are in POWA?

POWA held 50 stocks in roughly equal amounts as of August 31, 2026. The largest were Best Buy, Roper Technologies, Mettler-Toledo, US Foods and Cencora, at about 2.4% to 2.5% each. Microsoft, Garmin, Cardinal Health and McKesson were also in the top ten, which together made up 23.9% of assets. About 92% of holdings were US companies, with smaller amounts in companies based in Ireland, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

What is POWA's expense ratio?

POWA's expense ratio is 0.40% a year, according to its December 18, 2025 prospectus. All of it is the management fee, and there is no fee waiver. The average for similar funds is 0.41%, which puts POWA 4th cheapest of 7. In the SEC's standard example ($10,000 invested, 5% yearly return), total costs come to $41 after one year, $128 after three, $224 after five and $505 after ten.

What's the difference between POWA and RTH?

RTH, the VanEck Retail ETF, focuses on retail companies. POWA picks stocks from every sector based on stable margins. They share about 26% of their holdings, the highest overlap of any similar fund. RTH costs 0.35% a year, compared with 0.40% for POWA. As of October 27, 2026, RTH returned 7.1% over one year and 18.6% a year over three years. POWA returned 0.2% and 14.4% over the same periods.

How has POWA performed over the long term?

Its long-term returns were solid but not spectacular. Through December 31, 2024, POWA returned 13.15% over one year, 9.19% a year over five years and 9.74% a year over ten years. It returned 11.7% in 2025. Returns then slowed: as of October 27, 2026, it was up 0.2% over one year and 1.7% year to date. Its three-year return was 14.4% a year.
