The short version
YieldMax Crypto Industry & Tech Portfolio Option Income ETF (LFGY) is an actively managed fund. It holds 15 to 30 crypto-related and tech stocks, such as bitcoin miners and payment companies, and writes options on them each week to raise cash for payouts. It does not own bitcoin. Its trailing 12-month yield was 22.71% as of October 27, 2026. But it charges 1.02% a year, its payouts may include return of capital, and its price swings widely.

How it works
LFGY does not track an index. Its adviser picks 15 to 30 US-listed stocks of companies in the crypto business. These include bitcoin miners, trading platforms, digital wallets, payment processors and blockchain developers. The adviser favors stocks whose shares and options trade easily. It also weighs price level and implied volatility, which is how much the market expects a stock to move. As of July 31, 2026, the fund held 22 stocks. The largest were Block (6.4%), PayPal (6.2%), Opera (5.9%), Cipher Digital (5.8%) and NVIDIA (5.7%). The top 10 made up about 53% of the fund. It is "non-diversified" and concentrated in one industry group. Portfolio turnover was 114%.
Each week, the fund writes options on its stocks. When those options are too thin or too costly, it can use options on crypto-industry ETFs instead. Its most common trade is a covered call spread. The fund sells a call option, which gives the buyer the right to buy at a set price, and buys another call at a higher price. It keeps the premium, and both the gain and the loss on the trade are capped. In strong rallies, this gives up some upside. It does not protect against declines.
The fund keeps cash or short-term Treasuries, which back the options trades. Cash was 10.25% as of July 31, 2026. Payouts vary, may include return of capital and can wear down the share price over time.
What it really costs
- LFGY charges 1.02% a year.
- Of that, 0.99% is the management fee; the rest covers other fund expenses.
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $104 in the first year and $1,248 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LFGY | $104 | $325 | $563 | $1,248 |
Structure and tax notes
- Generates much of its income from selling options (directly or through notes). That income is usually taxed as ordinary income rather than as qualified dividends, and the strategy gives up some upside in strong markets.
In a retirement portfolio
It pairs a very high but variable payout with concentrated crypto-industry stocks that have moved about twice as much as the broad market.
LFGY launched on January 13, 2025, so it has no record from the 2008, 2020 or 2022 downturns. Its prospectus has no full calendar year of SEC-standard returns. Price data starts June 9, 2026. In that window, the fund fell 23.5% from September 22 to October 26, 2026, and it had not recovered as of October 27. Over that short span its beta was 2.17, which means it moved about twice as much as the broad market. Anyone drawing income from it in a slump could end up selling shares at low prices.
The trailing yield was 22.71% as of October 27, 2026. The fund aims to pay weekly, but amounts vary, may include return of capital and are usually taxed as ordinary income. Its cost is 1.02%, or $104 in the first year of the SEC's $10,000 example. Past results don't predict future ones. A plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors seeking frequent, large cash payouts from crypto-industry stocks, who accept that payouts and share price can both shrink.
- Those wanting exposure to bitcoin miners such as Riot, MARA and Hut 8, plus payment firms like Block and PayPal, without owning digital assets.
- Investors keeping it to a small slice, comfortable with drops like the 23.5% fall between September 22 and October 26, 2026.
Look elsewhere if
- Anyone wanting the price of bitcoin itself. The fund owns no digital assets, and its prospectus points those investors to other products.
- Cost-conscious investors. It charges 1.02% a year, about $1,248 over 10 years in the SEC's $10,000 example.
- Retirees needing steady, predictable income or a long track record. Payouts vary widely, may include return of capital, and history starts in 2025.

Questions investors ask
Does LFGY own bitcoin?
No. LFGY does not own bitcoin or any other digital asset. It also does not use derivatives that track crypto prices. It owns stocks of companies tied to the crypto industry, such as miners like Riot, MARA and Core Scientific, and payment firms like Block and PayPal. Its value can still move with crypto sentiment. The prospectus says investors who want direct exposure to a digital asset's price should consider a different product.
How often does LFGY pay dividends?
The prospectus says LFGY seeks to pay distributions every week, but no payment is guaranteed in any given week. Amounts will likely vary a lot from one payment to the next. Over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, it paid $3.65 per share, a trailing yield of 22.71%. Most of that cash comes from option premiums. Option income is usually taxed as ordinary income, not as qualified dividends.
Is LFGY's high yield sustainable?
There is no assurance it is. The payouts depend mostly on option premiums, which rise and fall with market volatility. Payouts may also include return of capital, which hands back part of your own money instead of earnings. The prospectus warns that repeated payouts can sharply wear down the share price. The fund fell 17.4% in the month to October 27, 2026, so a high yield did not offset a falling share price.
What are LFGY's top holdings?
As of July 31, 2026, the largest holdings were Block (6.4%), PayPal (6.2%), Opera (5.9%), Cipher Digital (5.8%), NVIDIA (5.7%), Hut 8 (5.7%), Riot Platforms (5.1%), Core Scientific (4.6%), MercadoLibre (4.0%) and MARA (4.0%). Those 10 made up about 53% of the fund, which held 22 stocks in total. About 67% was in US companies. Cash and Treasuries made up the rest, backing the options trades.
What is LFGY's expense ratio?
LFGY's expense ratio is 1.02%, according to its prospectus filed November 21, 2025. That includes a 0.99% management fee. In the SEC's standard example, a $10,000 investment earning 5% a year would cost about $104 after one year, $325 after three years, $563 after five years and $1,248 after 10 years. Turnover of 114% adds trading costs that the expense ratio does not include.
