How it works
GTOH does not track an index. Its managers normally keep at least 80% of net assets in high-yield debt. The fund defines high yield as bonds rated B- to BB+, the upper tiers of junk, below the BBB- cutoff for investment grade. When rating agencies disagree, it uses the highest rating. Up to 10% may fall below B- after downgrades. It can also hold up to 20% in senior secured bank loans, which are backed by company assets and pay interest that resets as rates move. It may also own convertible bonds, asset-backed securities and foreign or emerging-market debt.
Invesco Advisers, Inc., the sub-adviser, picks bonds issuer by issuer. It weighs each company's business risks and management, its balance sheet and ability to generate cash, and how its bonds are priced against similar ones. It also considers broader sector and economic trends. Trading is heavy: turnover was 148%, so it replaced more than its whole portfolio in a year.
The managers aim to keep average duration at three years or less, though the target isn't guaranteed. Duration measures rate sensitivity: a three-year duration implies about a 3% price drop for each 1-percentage-point rise in rates. The fund may use swaps, options, futures and currency forward contracts to adjust that exposure. As of July 31, 2026, its only derivatives were four currency forwards with a near-zero net weight.
What it really costs
- GTOH charges 0.48% a year, versus an average of 0.39% for the similar funds below (5th of 8, cheapest first).
- The fee includes a 0.01% waiver from the adviser, which may end.
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $49 in the first year and $615 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GTOH | $49 | $156 | $273 | $615 |
Structure and tax notes
- Bond prices move opposite to interest rates; the longer the maturities it holds, the more its price reacts to rate changes.
In a retirement portfolio
It pays monthly from short-duration junk bonds, with a trailing yield of 6.42% as of October 27, 2026, in exchange for added credit risk.
GTOH could add monthly income: its trailing yield was 6.42% as of October 27, 2026. Its deepest drop since its December 2022 launch was 4.2%, from February 2 to February 21, 2023, and it recovered by July 12, 2023, about 4.6 months later. Its weakest calendar year, 2024, still returned 6.92%. But the fund started after the 2008, 2020 and 2022 market lows, so its short record has not been tested by a severe credit downturn, when junk-bond prices tend to fall as default fears rise. Anyone drawing cash in such a year could lock in losses.
Costs run above average for similar funds: the 0.48% expense ratio works out to $49 in the first year and $615 over 10 years on $10,000 in the SEC's standard example. Past results don't predict future returns, and a retirement plan needs to weigh the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Income seekers who want monthly payouts from junk bonds; the trailing yield was 6.42% as of October 27, 2026.
- Bond investors wary of rate swings: it targets duration of three years or less, and its deepest drop since launch was 4.2%.
- Those who prefer active selection: Invesco Advisers picks bonds rated B- to BB+, the upper tiers of junk, rather than tracking an index.
Look elsewhere if
- Cost-focused investors: the 0.48% expense ratio is above the 0.39% average for similar funds, and HYLB charges 0.05%.
- Those wary of tiny funds or short records: assets were $12.8 million as of July 31, 2026, and it launched in December 2022.
- Savers who can't risk losing principal: junk bonds can default, and the fund may hold distressed loans and emerging-market debt.

Questions investors ask
What does GTOH invest in?
GTOH invests mainly in corporate junk bonds. As of July 31, 2026, bonds and notes made up 90.88% of net assets and bank loans 6.34%, across 191 positions. The largest were a Carrix Holdings term loan (1.77%), VOC Escrow (1.55%), Bath & Body Works (1.53%), Venture Global Plaquemines LNG (1.52%) and NESCO Holdings II (1.52%). The top 10 totaled just 14.91%. U.S. issuers made up 84.3%, with the rest spread across places such as the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Canada.
Does GTOH pay monthly dividends?
Yes. GTOH pays distributions every month. Its trailing yield was 6.42% as of October 27, 2026, based on $1.58 per share paid over the prior year. The money comes mainly from interest on junk bonds and bank loans, so payments can rise or fall as holdings change and loan rates reset. That high yield is compensation for credit risk: these borrowers are more likely to default than investment-grade companies.
What's the difference between GTOH and FHYS?
Mostly cost, size and results. Both are short duration high-yield ETFs. GTOH charges 0.48% and had $12.8 million in assets as of July 31, 2026. Federated Hermes Short Duration High Yield ETF (FHYS) charges 0.51% and had $55.1 million as of August 31, 2026. Through October 27, 2026, FHYS returned 3.3% over one year versus 1.3% for GTOH. GTOH led over three years, 7.6% a year versus 7.3%. FHYS's holdings had a slightly shorter average maturity: 4 years versus 4.4.
What is GTOH's expense ratio?
GTOH's expense ratio is 0.48%, according to its prospectus filed February 20, 2026. The SEC's standard example assumes $10,000 invested and a 5% annual return. On that basis, costs would total $49 after one year, $273 after five years and $615 after 10. That is above the 0.39% average for similar funds. AB Short Duration High Yield ETF (SYFI) charges 0.40% and Virtus Newfleet Short Duration High Yield Bond ETF (VSHY) 0.39%, while FHYS charges 0.51%.
Is GTOH risky for retirees?
It carries real credit risk, even though its short record looks calm. GTOH holds junk bonds, which are more likely to default than investment-grade debt, and it may own distressed loans and emerging-market bonds. Its deepest drop since launch was 4.2%, in February 2023, and it recovered within about 4.6 months. Its weakest calendar year, 2024, returned 6.92%. But it launched in December 2022, after the 2008, 2020 and 2022 market lows, so it hasn't faced a severe credit downturn.
