How it works

AIVC is a passive index fund. Amplify Investments is the adviser, Penserra Capital Management is the sub-adviser, and Bloomberg Index Services Limited builds the index. The fund does not try to beat the index or move into cash when markets fall. It normally invests at least 80% of its net assets in the index's stocks, in about the same proportions as the index (called replication). It may hold a representative sample instead when some stocks are hard or costly to buy.

The index starts with global stocks that have at least $500 million in free-float market value (shares available to the public) and trade at least $5 million a day on average over 90 days. Bloomberg Intelligence sorts eligible companies into three groups: Cloud, AI Hardware and AI Semiconductors. Each company must rank in the "gold" tier, meaning its revenue and business are closely tied to the theme. The 15 largest companies in each group get in, for up to 45 stocks.

Every stock gets an equal weight. The index is rebalanced and reconstituted quarterly, in January, April, July and October, so winners are trimmed and laggards topped up. This helps explain the fund's 129% portfolio turnover, a measure of how much of the portfolio is traded in a year. The fund is non-diversified, meaning it can hold larger stakes in fewer companies, and it leans heavily on technology.

What it really costs

  • AIVC charges 0.59% a year, versus an average of 0.58% for the similar funds below (5th of 9, cheapest first).
  • Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $60 in the first year and $738 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
Cost of $10,000 (SEC example)1 yr3 yrs5 yrs10 yrs
AIVC$60$189$329$738

In a retirement portfolio

RoleSatellite (higher risk)

Its narrow AI theme, equal-weighted mix of about 45 tech stocks and history of steep annual losses make it a small add-on, not a foundation.

AIVC is a concentrated bet on AI chips, hardware and cloud companies. It could add growth potential, but it can also lose a lot. According to its prospectus, it lost 38.47% in 2022 and 17.95% in 2018. In early 2020 it fell 25.65% in one quarter, then rose 46.1% the next. It launched in 2016, so it has no record from 2008. From February 18 to April 8, 2025, it dropped 32.6%, and it took about 2.8 months to recover. Someone who has to sell shares during a slump like that could lock in the loss. Income is minimal: the yield was 0.11% as of October 27, 2026, paid once a year. In the SEC's standard example, the 0.59% expense ratio costs $738 over 10 years on a $10,000 investment. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.

Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere

May suit

  • Investors wanting a small, equal-weighted slice of AI chip, hardware and cloud stocks, with no single holding much above 4%.
  • People comfortable with steep swings, such as a 38.47% loss in 2022 and a 25.65% drop in one quarter of 2020.
  • Investors wanting global AI exposure, including SK hynix, MediaTek and Samsung, with about a third of assets outside the US as of June 30, 2026.

Look elsewhere if

  • Income seekers: the yield was just 0.11% as of October 27, 2026, paid once a year.
  • Cost-focused investors: ARTY (0.47%) and WTAI (0.45%) charge less than AIVC's 0.59% and hold many of the same stocks.
  • Anyone who may need to sell in a downturn, or who prefers a larger fund than AIVC's $126.5 million as of June 30, 2026.

Questions investors ask

Is AIVC good for retirement?

AIVC is built for growth, not stability or income, so in a retirement portfolio it usually plays only a small role. It holds about 45 AI chip, hardware and cloud stocks, and it fell 38.47% in 2022. Its yield was 0.11% as of October 27, 2026. Gains have also been large: the price rose 60.3% in 2026 through October 27. Past results don't predict future returns, so it's worth weighing how much of a drop you could live through.

Does AIVC pay a dividend?

Yes, but very little. AIVC pays once a year. Its trailing 12-month yield was 0.11% as of October 27, 2026, or about $0.12 per share. The fund holds growth-focused technology companies such as Micron, AMD and Marvell, and companies like these tend to put their cash back into the business rather than pay large dividends. Investors who want steady income will likely find this fund pays too little to matter.

What stocks are in AIVC?

As of June 30, 2026, AIVC held 45 stocks. The largest were Micron Technology (4.3%), SK hynix (4.1%), MediaTek (4.0%), Marvell Technology (3.8%) and Advanced Micro Devices (3.7%). The top 10 made up 36.2% of assets. About 68% was in US companies. Taiwan, South Korea, the Netherlands, China and Japan made up most of the rest. Because the index gives every stock an equal weight, no single holding dominates.

What's the difference between AIVC and CHAT?

Both are AI-focused ETFs, and about 45% of their holdings overlap, based on the latest N-PORT reports. AIVC costs less: 0.59% a year, compared with 0.75% for Roundhill Generative AI & Technology ETF (CHAT). CHAT is much larger, with about $1.78 billion in net assets as of July 31, 2026, compared with AIVC's $126.5 million as of June 30, 2026. In the year to October 27, 2026, AIVC returned 53.6% and CHAT returned 24.9%.

What is AIVC's expense ratio?

AIVC's expense ratio is 0.59%, according to its prospectus filed January 28, 2026. The SEC's standard example assumes $10,000 invested with a 5% yearly return. On that basis, you would pay about $60 in fees over one year, $329 over five years and $738 over 10 years. That's close to the 0.58% average for similar AI funds. ARTY charges less at 0.47%, and AIQ charges more at 0.68%.
