What changed recently

  • Over the three months to Jun 30, 2026, investors withdrew a net $354K (creations minus redemptions, per the N-PORT report).
  • Monthly total returns reported for that quarter: +2.17%, +2.38%, -0.47%.

How it works

The index starts with the Solactive US Broad Market Index, which covers about the 3,000 largest U.S. companies. It keeps only dividend payers whose yields are above the median. Each stock is then scored on three "Power Factors": earnings, free cash flow and sales, each compared with the share price. Stocks are judged on their own numbers and against industry peers. Solactive then ranks them by "dividend indicated yield." That is last year's dividends as a share of the price, adjusted for what the options market expects next year's dividends to be. The top 50 make the cut, subject to diversification and liquidity rules.

The index is rebuilt every quarter, and no sector can be more than 20% of it at each rebuild. To limit trading, a current holding stays in until it drops out of the top 75. Each month, holdings are checked for dividend cuts or a weak dividend outlook, and changes take effect at month-end. Even with these limits, portfolio turnover was 138%.

Millington Securities is the advisor and WBI Investments is the sub-advisor. They run the fund passively. They try to hold every index stock in the same proportions and keep at least 80% of assets in index securities. The fund does not move to defensive positions when markets fall. The prospectus strategy does not use options, and the June 30, 2026 holdings report listed no derivatives.

What it really costs

  • WBIY charges 1% a year, versus an average of 0.55% for the similar funds below (4th of 4, cheapest first).
  • Of that, 0.55% is the management fee; the rest covers other fund expenses.
  • The fee includes a 0.09% waiver from the adviser, which may end.
  • Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $102 in the first year and $1,321 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
Cost of $10,000 (SEC example)1 yr3 yrs5 yrs10 yrs
WBIY$102$338$592$1,321
SEC standard example: $10,000 invested, 5% annual return, shares sold at the end of each period.

Structure and tax notes

  • Generates much of its income from selling options (directly or through notes). That income is usually taxed as ordinary income rather than as qualified dividends, and the strategy gives up some upside in strong markets.

In a retirement portfolio

RoleIncome

WBIY holds 50 high-dividend U.S. stocks and pays quarterly, with a trailing yield of 3.94% as of October 27, 2026.

WBIY could add stock-market income from value-priced companies. The fund launched in December 2016, so it has no record from 2008. In the first quarter of 2020 it lost 41.19%, and it ended that year down 8.78%. Its worst calendar year was 2018, at -11.33%. In 2022 it fell 21% from April 20 to September 30 and was back to its old high by January 31, 2023, about four months later. Someone who sold during those drops would have locked in the losses. Dividends from high-yield stocks can also be cut. Costs are high: on $10,000, the SEC example shows $102 in the first year and $1,321 over 10 years. Past results don't predict future ones, and a retirement plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.

Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere

May suit

  • Investors seeking quarterly dividend income from 50 high-yield U.S. stocks; the trailing yield was 3.94% as of October 27, 2026.
  • Those comfortable with a value tilt toward names such as Best Buy, HP, Altria and Campbell's, the largest holdings as of June 30, 2026.
  • Holders using tax-advantaged accounts, where capital gains from the fund's 138% annual turnover matter less.

Look elsewhere if

  • Cost-focused investors: the 1.00% expense ratio was the highest among the similar funds compared, which averaged 0.55%.
  • Anyone who would struggle with sharp drops: the fund lost 41.19% in the first quarter of 2020.
  • Investors wanting broad diversification: it holds 50 stocks, the top 10 were 46.6% of assets, and net assets were about $59 million.

Questions investors ask

Is WBIY good for retirement income?

WBIY may suit retirees who want dividend income and can accept large price swings. It paid $1.42 per share over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, a 3.94% yield. But its holdings are high-yield stocks that can cut their dividends. The fund lost 41.19% in the first quarter of 2020, and its 1.00% expense ratio is high. It is worth comparing with lower-cost dividend funds before deciding.

Does WBIY pay monthly dividends?

No. WBIY pays dividends quarterly. Over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, it paid $1.42 per share, a trailing yield of 3.94%. Payments depend on the dividends of its 50 holdings, so they can change from quarter to quarter. The index checks its holdings every month for dividend cuts or a weak dividend outlook. Even so, high-yield companies can reduce or stop their dividends at any time.

What is WBIY's expense ratio?

WBIY's expense ratio is 1.00%, according to its prospectus filed October 27, 2026. In the SEC's standard example, $10,000 earning 5% a year would cost about $102 in the first year and $1,321 over 10 years. The similar funds it was compared with averaged 0.55%, which puts WBIY last of four on cost. Its 138% turnover also adds trading costs, and those are not part of the expense ratio.

WBIY vs HEJD: what's the difference?

They own mostly different stocks. VictoryShares Hedged Equity Income ETF (HEJD) is the closest match by holdings, yet it shares only 18% of WBIY's portfolio. HEJD's expense ratio is 0.55%, compared with WBIY's 1.00%. Over the year to October 27, 2026, WBIY returned 20.2% and HEJD 1.8%. Both are small funds: WBIY had about $59 million in net assets as of June 30, 2026, and HEJD about $36.5 million as of December 31, 2025.

How has WBIY performed over the long term?

WBIY returned 12.8% in 2025. Through December 31, 2025, it averaged 12.21% a year over five years and 8.08% a year since its December 2016 launch, according to its prospectus. Based on price, it gained 20.2% in the year to October 27, 2026. The record also includes losses of 11.33% in 2018 and 8.78% in 2020. Past results don't predict future returns.
