What changed recently

  • Over the three months to Jun 30, 2026, investors added a net $15.1M (creations minus redemptions, per the N-PORT report).
  • Monthly total returns reported for that quarter: +12.85%, +7.61%, -3.21%.

How it works

TGRW does not track an index. T. Rowe Price's managers pick the stocks. The fund normally keeps at least 80% of its net assets in companies with "growth characteristics." The prospectus defines these as stocks that appear in a suitable third-party growth index. The fund can own companies of any size, but it mostly buys large ones. It looks for strong cash flow and above-average earnings growth, earnings that hold up in downturns, or a profitable niche that can keep growing when the economy slows.

The managers decide how much to hold of each stock, and the prospectus sets no fixed rebalancing schedule. The fund is "nondiversified," which means it may put more money into a single company than a diversified fund could. As of June 30, 2026, NVIDIA made up 13.9% of assets and Alphabet 11.9%. The 10 largest positions together made up 59%. Portfolio turnover was 47.5%, so the managers replaced roughly half the portfolio over the year.

Unlike most ETFs, TGRW does not publish its actual holdings every day. Instead, it posts a daily Proxy Portfolio, a basket of stocks designed to track the fund's daily performance. It also posts a "Portfolio Overlap" figure showing how closely that basket matched the real holdings. Traders use the proxy to keep the share price close to the value of the holdings (net asset value, or NAV). The prospectus warns the gap can widen when markets are volatile.

What it really costs

  • TGRW charges 0.52% a year, versus an average of 0.32% for the similar funds below (6th of 9, cheapest first).
  • Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $53 in the first year and $653 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).

In a retirement portfolio

RoleSatellite (higher risk)

It is a concentrated, actively managed bet on large growth stocks, with nearly half its assets in technology, and it fell 38.4% in 2022.

TGRW could add a focused bet on large US growth companies alongside a broader core holding. It has no track record for the 2008 crisis or the 2020 COVID crash, because it launched in August 2020, after that crash. In 2022, its worst calendar year, it lost 38.4%. Its deepest drop was 43.3%, from November 2021 to November 2022, and it took about 19 months to get back to its old peak in May 2024. Someone who had to sell shares in a year like that would have locked in large losses. It paid no income in the 12 months to October 27, 2026, so any cash would have to come from selling shares. It costs 0.52% a year. In the SEC's standard example, that's $53 in the first year and $653 over 10 years on a $10,000 investment. Past results don't predict future returns, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.

Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere

May suit

  • Investors who want an actively managed large-growth fund with big positions in NVIDIA, Alphabet, Apple and Broadcom (as of June 30, 2026).
  • Those who can sit through growth-stock swings like the 38.4% loss in 2022 and the 48.9% gain in 2023.
  • Investors who already own a broad core fund and want a smaller growth holding that doesn't need to produce income.

Look elsewhere if

  • Cost-focused investors: growth index ETFs such as VONG (0.07%) and SPYG (0.04%) charge far less than TGRW's 0.52%.
  • Anyone who needs income: TGRW made no distributions in the 12 months to October 27, 2026.
  • Investors who want to see full holdings daily or want wide diversification: TGRW posts only a proxy portfolio and held 48.9% in technology.

Questions investors ask

Is TGRW good for retirement?

TGRW is a higher-risk growth fund, so it usually plays a smaller role in a retirement portfolio rather than serving as the core. It lost 38.4% in 2022. After its low in November 2022, it took about 19 months to get back to its earlier peak. It paid no income in the 12 months to October 27, 2026, so cash would have to come from selling shares. Past results don't predict future returns.

Does TGRW pay dividends?

No. As of October 27, 2026, TGRW's 12-month yield was 0%, and it made no payouts in the prior year. That matches its stated goal of long-term capital growth rather than income. Investors who want cash from the fund would need to sell shares, which can mean selling at a loss in a bad year such as 2022, when the fund fell 38.4%.

What's the difference between TGRW and TCHP?

They are close cousins. Both are actively managed T. Rowe Price large-cap growth ETFs, and their holdings overlapped by 76% in the latest N-PORT reports. TGRW charges 0.52% a year and TCHP charges 0.57%. As of October 27, 2026, TCHP's 3-year annualized return was 23.5%, compared with 21.4% for TGRW. TCHP is also larger, with $2.16 billion in net assets versus $1.03 billion (both as of June 30, 2026). T. Rowe Price Growth ETF (TGRT) overlaps by 75% and costs 0.38%.

How has TGRW performed?

As of December 31, 2025, TGRW's average annual returns were 15.39% over 1 year, 9.61% over 5 years and 12.03% since its August 2020 launch. By calendar year, it returned 14.94% in 2021, −38.39% in 2022, 48.87% in 2023, 30.08% in 2024 and 15.39% in 2025. Based on share price, it gained 1.9% in 2026 through October 27. Its 3-year annualized return of 21.4% ranked last among nine similar funds.

What are TGRW's top holdings?

As of June 30, 2026, TGRW's largest holdings were NVIDIA (13.9%), Alphabet (11.9%), Apple (5.9%), Broadcom (5.7%) and Microsoft (4.2%). It held 80 stocks, and the top 10 made up 58.8% of assets. Technology was 48.9% of the portfolio and communication services 16.6%. Because the fund doesn't disclose its holdings daily, these figures come from periodic reports. The fund's daily Proxy Portfolio is not its actual portfolio.
