The short version
StockSnips AI-Powered Sentiment US All Cap ETF (NEWZ) is an actively managed fund that uses artificial intelligence to scan the news and hold the 30 to 50 US-listed stocks with the most positive, improving coverage. Each holding gets an equal weight and the lineup is reshuffled every two weeks, so trading is heavy. Its 0.75% annual expense ratio is slightly above the 0.72% average of the two funds whose holdings overlap most with it.

How it works
NEWZ, issued by ETF Architect, is actively managed rather than tracking an index. Its sub-adviser, Stock Snips, Inc., uses natural language processing, software that reads and scores text. Each day it scans news articles, blogs, SEC filings, earnings transcripts and analyst reports from sources including Zacks, Motley Fool, the Associated Press and CNBC. Its software labels each snippet about a company as positive, negative or uncertain. That yields two signals: how positive coverage is and whether it is improving.
The process starts with industries that have enough news coverage, spread across growth, defensive and cyclical segments. It drops companies worth less than $2 billion, highly volatile stocks, firms that score poorly on profitability measures such as return on equity, and those with too little news. The 30 to 50 top-ranked stocks are held in equal amounts. Holdings can include American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), US-traded shares of foreign companies.
Every two weeks it resets to equal weights and swaps stocks in or out, so its makeup follows the news around each rebalance. The prospectus reports portfolio turnover of 614%, roughly like replacing every holding six times a year; the costs of that trading come on top of the 0.75% expense ratio. As of July 31, 2026, it held no derivatives: 99.35% sat in 30 stocks and 0.68% in cash.
What it really costs
- NEWZ charges 0.75% a year, versus an average of 0.72% for the similar funds below (2nd of 3, cheapest first).
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $77 in the first year and $930 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NEWZ | $77 | $240 | $417 | $930 |
In a retirement portfolio
With 30 equally weighted stocks as of July 31, 2026, heavy AI-driven trading, no dividends and a record starting April 12, 2024, it fits as a small, higher-risk add-on.
NEWZ could add a news-sentiment twist to a stock allocation, but its record is short: it launched on April 12, 2024, missing the 2008, 2020 and 2022 downturns. Its deepest drop was 19.4%, from February 5 to April 8, 2025, and it did not recover until July 6, 2026, about 15 months after the low. Anyone drawing cash in that stretch would have been cashing in shares below their earlier peak. Its only full calendar year, 2025, ended with a 4.02% loss.
It paid no dividends in the year to October 27, 2026, so it provides no income. Its 0.75% expense ratio comes to $77 in the first year and $930 over 10 years in the SEC's standard $10,000 example, and trading from 614% turnover adds costs on top. Past results don't predict future returns, and a retirement plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors who want AI to choose stocks, rather than a fund of AI companies; holdings as of July 31, 2026, ranged from NVIDIA to Kroger.
- Those comfortable owning 30 equally weighted stocks, led by NewMarket, Corpay and Solventum on July 31, 2026, and reshuffled every two weeks.
- Investors using it as a small add-on who can ride out drops like its 19.4% fall from February to April 2025.
Look elsewhere if
- Retirees who need income: NEWZ paid no dividends in the year to October 27, 2026, so any cash would come from cashing in shares.
- Cost-conscious investors: its 0.75% expense ratio tops Guru Favorite Stocks ETF's 0.65%, and 614% turnover adds trading costs beyond that fee.
- Anyone wanting a long record or large fund: NEWZ launched April 12, 2024, and had $19.5 million in net assets as of July 31, 2026.

Does NEWZ invest in AI stocks?
Not as a theme. NEWZ uses artificial intelligence to choose stocks rather than targeting AI companies. Its sub-adviser, Stock Snips, Inc., scores news coverage across many industries and holds the 30 to 50 stocks, each worth at least $2 billion, with the most positive and improving sentiment. As of July 31, 2026, its largest holdings were NewMarket (4.11%), Corpay (3.77%), Solventum (3.73%), Medpace (3.67%) and Capital One (3.56%). NVIDIA, at 3.39%, sat alongside Kroger and New Jersey Resources.
What is the NEWZ expense ratio?
NEWZ's expense ratio, the annual cost taken out of fund assets, is 0.75%, all of it a management fee, according to its prospectus filed May 20, 2026. In the SEC's standard example, $10,000 earning 5% a year would incur $77 in costs after one year, $240 after three, $417 after five and $930 after ten. The fund's 614% portfolio turnover adds trading costs not counted in that figure. For comparison, the two funds with the most overlapping holdings charge 0.79% (BRNY) and 0.65% (GFGF).
Does NEWZ pay dividends?
No. NEWZ made no distributions in the year to October 27, 2026, so its yield over that period was 0%. Its stated goal is long-term capital appreciation, meaning growth in share price rather than income. That leaves returns tied to price moves: the fund lost 4.02% in 2025 and gained 8.6% in 2026 through October 27. Investors who need regular cash from this holding would have to cash in shares.
What's the difference between NEWZ and BRNY?
They hold mostly different stocks: Burney U.S. Factor Rotation ETF (BRNY) is the closest match to NEWZ by holdings, yet only about 11% overlap. NEWZ picks 30 to 50 stocks by news sentiment and weights them equally. BRNY charges 0.79% versus 0.75% and had about $580 million in net assets against NEWZ's $19.5 million as of July 31, 2026. In the year to October 27, 2026, BRNY returned 15.5% and NEWZ 1.1%. One year's results say little about the future.
Is NEWZ good for retirement?
It fits more naturally as a small, higher-risk slice than as a core holding. NEWZ held 30 stocks as of July 31, 2026, paid no dividends in the year to October 27, 2026, and has a record dating only to April 12, 2024. Its deepest fall, 19.4% from February 5 to April 8, 2025, took until July 6, 2026, to recover. It also charges 0.75% a year. Past results don't predict future returns, and any single fund should be weighed within the whole portfolio.
