The short version

Fidelity Fundamental Large Cap Value ETF (FFLV) is actively managed, not an index fund: it holds large US and foreign companies that Fidelity considers undervalued, and a quantitative model sets how much of each it owns. Its 0.38% annual fee falls between cheaper rivals such as iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF (0.19%) and the pricier Fidelity Blue Chip Value ETF (0.59%). With $16.4 million in assets as of July 31, 2026, it is the smallest fund in its comparison group.

  • Monthly total returns reported for that quarter: +0.78%, +2.60%, +3.58%.

How it works

FFLV is actively managed, not tied to an index. Its adviser, Fidelity Management & Research Company, buys US and foreign stocks it considers undervalued relative to the company's assets, sales, earnings, growth potential or cash flow, or to industry peers. Since December 11, 2025, the fund must normally keep at least 80% of assets in large value companies, sized like those in the Russell 1000 or S&P 500 indexes.

Its "value" label is broad. A stock qualifies by meeting any one test: membership in a third-party value index, or a cheaper-than-median reading on price-to-book (price versus net assets), projected price-to-earnings, enterprise value (equity plus debt) to earnings, or free cash flow yield (spare cash per dollar of share price). That flexibility shows in the top holdings as of July 31, 2026: Amazon (7.3%), Apple (4.8%) and Microsoft (4.5%).

Selection starts with Fidelity analysts' research and reference portfolios. A quantitative (computer-driven) process then sizes positions, favoring high-conviction picks within risk, liquidity and trading limits. There is no scheduled index rebalance; the prospectus reported 44% annual turnover, roughly the share of the portfolio replaced. Being non-diversified, the fund can concentrate in fewer companies. As of July 31, 2026, it held 112 stocks and no derivatives.

What it really costs

  • FFLV charges 0.38% a year, versus an average of 0.31% for the similar funds below (6th of 9, cheapest first).
  • Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $39 in the first year and $480 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
Cost of $10,000 (SEC example)1 yr3 yrs5 yrs10 yrs
FFLV$39$122$213$480
SEC standard example: $10,000 invested, 5% annual return, shares sold at the end of each period.

In a retirement portfolio

RoleDiversifier

It leans toward value holdings such as banks, insurers, oil companies and drugmakers, which can balance a broad or growth-heavy stock fund, though Amazon, Apple and Microsoft were its largest holdings as of July 31, 2026.

FFLV could add a value tilt that moved less than the broad market over the year to October 27, 2026. Its beta, a measure of how much it moves with the market, was 0.6. It launched in February 2024, so it has no record from the 2008, 2020 or 2022 downturns. Its only full calendar year, 2025, returned 16.1%. Its deepest drop, 16.7%, ran from November 29, 2024, to April 8, 2025. It regained that peak on August 22, 2025, about 4.5 months after the low. Anyone who cashed out near that low to cover spending would have locked in much of the loss.

Income is modest. Dividends over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, equaled a 1.33% yield, paid quarterly. Annual costs of 0.38% come to $39 in the first year on $10,000 under the SEC's standard example. Past results don't predict the future, and a retirement plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.

Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere

May suit

  • Investors wanting actively managed large-cap value stocks from Fidelity at 0.38% a year, below the 0.59% charged by its sibling Fidelity Blue Chip Value ETF.
  • Investors wanting holdings like Wells Fargo, Travelers and Merck alongside big tech; Amazon, Apple and Microsoft were the top holdings as of July 31, 2026.
  • Long-term investors who value lower market sensitivity: beta was 0.6 over the year to October 27, 2026, though the record starts in 2024.

Look elsewhere if

  • Cost-focused investors: SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 Value ETF (0.04%) and iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF (0.19%) charge far less than FFLV's 0.38%.
  • Those wary of tiny funds: $16.4 million as of July 31, 2026, the smallest of nine in its group, and an active trading market isn't guaranteed.
  • Investors needing meaningful income: the yield was 1.33% over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, and the fund's stated goal is capital growth.

Questions investors ask

Is FFLV actively managed or an index fund?

FFLV is actively managed and does not track an index. Its adviser, Fidelity Management & Research, starts with analyst research and stock recommendations. It then uses a quantitative process to favor its highest-conviction ideas, within limits on risk and trading. The fund normally invests at least 80% of assets in large value companies, judged by tests such as a below-median price-to-book or projected price-to-earnings ratio. As of July 31, 2026, its three largest holdings were Amazon, Apple and Microsoft.

What is FFLV's expense ratio?

FFLV's expense ratio, the yearly fee taken from fund assets, is 0.38%, all of it a management fee, according to its prospectus filed November 24, 2025. In the SEC's standard example, $10,000 earning 5% a year would incur about $39 in costs over one year, $213 over five years and $480 over ten years. That is above the 0.31% average of similar funds but below the 0.59% charged by Fidelity Blue Chip Value ETF.

FFLV vs FBCV: what's the difference?

FFLV is cheaper and much smaller than Fidelity Blue Chip Value ETF (FBCV), though their holdings overlap by 62%, based on the funds' latest SEC holdings reports (N-PORT). FFLV charges 0.38% a year, compared with 0.59% for FBCV. As of July 31, 2026, FBCV had about $177 million in assets and FFLV had $16.4 million. Over the year to October 27, 2026, FBCV returned 27.6% and FFLV returned 22.8%. Larger, lower-cost alternatives include iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF at 0.19%.

Does FFLV pay dividends?

Yes, FFLV pays dividends every quarter. Over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, it paid $0.38 per share, a yield of 1.33%. That is modest income, and the fund's stated goal is long-term growth of capital, not income. The payments come from dividends on the stocks the fund owns, so the amounts can change from one quarter to the next.

How has FFLV performed since it launched?

FFLV returned 16.1% in 2025, its first full calendar year, and 18.6% in 2026 through October 27. Over the year to October 27, 2026, it gained 22.8%, ranking sixth among nine comparable funds. iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF returned 28.9% over the year to October 30, 2026. FFLV's deepest decline was 16.7%, from November 29, 2024, to April 8, 2025, and it was back at its old peak by August 22, 2025. A record of about 2.7 years says little about long-term results.
