How it works
AMID is actively managed. That means a team picks the stocks rather than copying an index. Argent Capital Management, the fund's sub-adviser, starts with about 1,500 companies whose market values fall within the Russell Midcap Index range ($132 million to $94 billion). It drops stocks that trade less than $8 million a day, which leaves about 1,200, and sorts the rest by sector.
Next, the proprietary Argent Alpha Model scores each stock from 1 to 10 using 25 factors in four groups. Value asks whether a stock is cheap compared with its sector. Growth measures how fast sales, earnings and cash flow are rising. Quality looks at earnings, the balance sheet and how well management uses capital. Stability includes measures such as cash compared with market value. The team finds the factors that are working in each sector and adds its own research. That narrows the list to about 120 candidates. The portfolio held 46 stocks as of August 31, 2026.
Sector weights come out of the stock picking, so the fund can lean heavily toward some sectors. Model changes usually happen monthly, or sooner after major events. A stock is usually sold when its fundamentals or score weaken, or when a better idea comes along. The manager says it does not expect high turnover, yet the prospectus reports turnover of 58%.
What it really costs
- AMID charges 0.52% a year.
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $53 in the first year and $653 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AMID | $53 | $167 | $291 | $653 |
In a retirement portfolio
It is a concentrated, actively managed mid-cap stock fund with a short record, so it fits better alongside a broad core holding than as the core itself.
AMID could add mid-sized companies such as Victory Capital, Comfort Systems USA and Medpace, which large-cap funds hold little of. Its history is short. The fund did not exist in 2008 or 2020, and its price record starts in October 2022, after the 2022 bear market low. Its worst calendar year was 2025, at -1.42%. Its deepest drop was 23.3%, from November 25, 2024 to April 8, 2025. It took about 16 months, until August 12, 2026, to recover. Someone selling shares for income during a drop like that would be selling at lower prices. The yield was 0.32% as of October 27, 2026, paid once a year. Costs are 0.52% a year, or $653 over 10 years in the SEC's standard $10,000 example. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors who want active mid-cap stock picking aimed at beating the Russell Midcap Index and accept paying 0.52% a year for it.
- Those adding a mid-cap slice next to a broad core fund who are comfortable with a concentrated portfolio of 46 stocks as of August 31, 2026.
- Long-term holders who can sit through drops like the 23.3% decline from November 2024 to April 2025, which took about 16 months to recover.
Look elsewhere if
- Income seekers: the yield was 0.32% as of October 27, 2026, and the fund pays only once a year.
- Investors who want a mid-cap index fund that simply tracks the market rather than relying on a manager's model and judgment.
- Those who prefer large, long-established funds: AMID launched in August 2022 and had about $115.5 million in net assets as of August 31, 2026.

Questions investors ask
Does AMID pay a dividend?
Yes, but it is small. AMID pays distributions once a year. Over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, it paid about $0.12 per share, a trailing yield of 0.32%. The fund aims to beat the Russell Midcap Index over time, not to produce income. It picks companies for profitability, cash flow and growth rather than high payouts, so it offers little regular income.
Is AMID an index fund?
No. AMID is actively managed. It aims to outperform the Russell Midcap Index over the long term but does not copy it. Argent Capital Management screens about 1,500 mid-sized companies, ranks them with its 25-factor Argent Alpha Model and adds its own research. The fund held 46 stocks as of August 31, 2026, so its returns can differ a lot from the index's, for better or worse.
What is AMID's expense ratio?
AMID's expense ratio is 0.52% a year, all of it management fee, according to the prospectus filed September 25, 2026. The SEC's standard example assumes $10,000 invested, a 5% annual return and shares sold at the end of each period. On that basis, costs come to about $53 after one year, $167 after three, $291 after five and $653 after 10. Actively managed funds usually cost more than index funds, so the fee is worth comparing with mid-cap index alternatives.
What are AMID's top holdings?
As of August 31, 2026, the largest holdings were Victory Capital Holdings (5.29%), Comfort Systems USA (3.51%), Medpace Holdings (3.43%), LPL Financial (3.36%) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (2.99%). The top 10 made up 31.66% of the fund, which held 46 stocks. About 91% was in US companies. The rest was in companies based in the United Kingdom, Bermuda, Canada and Ireland. Holdings change as the manager's model updates, usually monthly.
How has AMID performed since launch?
According to its prospectus, AMID returned an average of 9.5% a year from its August 2022 launch through December 31, 2025. Its calendar-year returns were 31.27% in 2023, 13.02% in 2024 and -1.42% in 2025. Based on price, it gained 10.3% from the start of 2026 through October 27, 2026, and averaged 15.3% a year over the three years to that date. Its deepest drop was 23.3%, between November 2024 and April 2025. Past results don't predict future returns.
