How it works
The fund follows the Bloomberg U.S. 600 Index. Bloomberg ranks U.S. stocks by market capitalization, which is share price times shares outstanding. The 1,500 largest form its U.S. 1500 Index, and this index takes the bottom 600 of those, ranked 901 to 1,500. To qualify, a stock must be primarily listed in the U.S. and trade on a U.S. exchange. At least 10% of its shares must also be free float, meaning available for public trading rather than held by insiders. Common stocks and real estate investment trusts (REITs) both count.
Stocks are weighted by free-float market value, so larger companies get larger weights. At this size range, though, no single stock dominates. As of June 30, 2026, the largest holdings were DigitalOcean and FormFactor at 0.53% each, followed by Cognex at 0.51%. Bloomberg reviews the list in January and July, and those changes take effect in March and September. Weights are updated in June and December, and the fund trades on the same schedule. Portfolio turnover was 45%.
Strive Asset Management, the sub-adviser, runs the fund passively. It generally owns every stock in the index in about the same proportions, but it may hold a representative sample instead. It does not try to beat the index or move to cash when markets fall.
What it really costs
- STXK charges 0.18% a year.
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $18 in the first year and $230 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| STXK | $18 | $58 | $101 | $230 |
In a retirement portfolio
It adds smaller U.S. companies that swing more than large ones and has less than four years of history, so it fits as a smaller slice next to a core holding.
STXK could add exposure to smaller U.S. companies that a large-company core fund owns little of. Its history is short. It launched in November 2022, so it missed the 2008 financial crisis, the 2020 COVID crash and the 2022 bear market. Its worst calendar year, 2025, was still a gain of about 8%. Within that stretch, though, it fell 27.1% from November 25, 2024 to April 8, 2025, and it took about 6.6 months after that low to recover. Anyone who had to sell in spring 2025 would have locked in a steep loss. The yield was 1.19% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly, so it offers modest income. It costs 0.18% a year, or $18 on $10,000 in the first year under the SEC's standard example. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors wanting low-cost U.S. small-company exposure: 596 stocks for 0.18% a year, with no holding above 0.53% as of June 30, 2026.
- Long-term holders adding a small-cap slice next to a large-company core fund who can sit through drops like the 27.1% fall into April 2025.
- People who prefer a plain, passively run index fund with no leverage or options strategy, rebalanced on a fixed twice-yearly schedule.
Look elsewhere if
- Investors wanting a long track record: the fund launched in November 2022 and has not been through a full bear market like 2008.
- Income seekers: the trailing yield was 1.19% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly, which is modest for funding regular withdrawals.
- Anyone who may need the money within a few years: three-year volatility was 19.8%, and small stocks can be harder to sell in stressed markets.

Questions investors ask
What index does STXK track?
STXK tracks the Bloomberg U.S. 600 Index. That index holds the stocks ranked 901 to 1,500 by market value in Bloomberg's U.S. 1500 Index, which makes them the smaller companies within that group. Stocks are weighted by the value of their publicly traded shares. Bloomberg reviews the list in January and July, and changes take effect in March and September. The fund generally owns every stock in the index in about the same proportions.
What is the STXK expense ratio?
STXK's expense ratio is 0.18% a year, based on the prospectus filed October 28, 2026. The SEC's standard example assumes $10,000 invested with a 5% annual return. On that basis, the cost would be about $18 after one year, $58 after three years, $101 after five years and $230 after ten years. Those costs come out of the fund's returns, not as a separate bill.
Does STXK pay dividends?
Yes, STXK pays dividends quarterly. Its trailing 12-month yield was 1.19% as of October 27, 2026, or about $0.44 per share. The payouts come from the dividends of the roughly 600 small companies and REITs it holds. Many small companies pay little or nothing, so the yield is modest. It is more of a bonus on top of growth than a main source of income.
What was STXK's biggest drop?
STXK's deepest decline was 27.1%, from November 25, 2024 to April 8, 2025. It regained its old high on October 27, 2025, about 6.6 months after the low. Its worst calendar quarter was the first quarter of 2025, at -8.13%. The fund launched in November 2022, so it has no record from the 2008, 2020 or 2022 market crashes.
How has STXK performed since launch?
From its November 2022 launch through December 31, 2025, STXK returned 12.11% a year on average. That is the figure reported in its prospectus. Calendar-year returns were 19.97% in 2023, 9.5% in 2024 and 7.97% in 2025. Based on price data, it gained 10.4% over the year to October 27, 2026. That is a short record, and small-company stocks can swing sharply in either direction.
