How it works
STXG is a passive fund. Its sub-adviser, Strive Asset Management, aims to match the Bloomberg U.S. 1000 Growth Index rather than beat it. That index is drawn from the Bloomberg U.S. 1000 Index of large and mid-sized U.S. companies. Bloomberg scores each stock on four equally weighted measures: earnings yield (earnings relative to price), valuation (such as sales relative to price), dividend yield and growth (such as sales growth). Stocks with faster growth, higher prices relative to their fundamentals and lower dividends score as more growth-like.
Stocks in the top 30% by score go in at their full market value. The next 40% go in on a sliding scale, from full weight at the 30th percentile down to zero at the 70th. The bottom 30% are left out. Weights are based on free float, meaning only the shares available to trade. A stock must be listed on a U.S. exchange and have at least 10% of its shares in free float. Real estate investment trusts (REITs) can qualify.
The index is reviewed in January and July, and the changes take effect in March and September. The fund generally holds every stock in the index but may use a representative sample instead. Portfolio turnover was 10%. The fund doesn't move into cash when markets fall. If the index becomes concentrated in one industry, the fund will be concentrated to about the same extent.
What it really costs
- STXG charges 0.18% a year.
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $18 in the first year and $230 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| STXG | $18 | $58 | $101 | $230 |
In a retirement portfolio
It covers only the growth side of the U.S. market, with about 41% in technology and a short record that includes no bear market, so it fits better alongside a broad core fund than as one.
STXG could add a low-cost growth tilt to a portfolio built around a broader core fund. Its record is short. It launched on November 10, 2022, so it has no history through the 2008 crisis, the 2020 COVID crash or the 2022 bear market. Every full calendar year so far has been positive. The weakest was 2025, at 17.71%. Its deepest drop was 21.2%, from January 23 to April 8, 2025, and it recovered by June 26, 2025, about 2.6 months later. A longer, deeper slump is possible. Selling shares to cover living costs during one would lock in losses.
Income is small: the yield was 0.48% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly. On $10,000, the SEC's standard cost example comes to $18 for one year and $230 over 10 years. Past results don't predict future returns, and a retirement plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors wanting passive U.S. growth-stock exposure for 0.18% a year, with portfolio turnover of 10%.
- Investors comfortable with a heavy technology tilt: about 41% of the fund, led by NVIDIA, Apple and Microsoft, as of June 30, 2026.
- Investors who pair a value or broad-market fund with a growth fund and want 704 large and mid-sized holdings.
Look elsewhere if
- Income seekers: the yield was just 0.48% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly.
- Anyone wanting a long track record: the fund launched in November 2022 and hasn't been through a major bear market.
- Investors uneasy with concentration: the top 10 holdings made up about 45% of assets as of June 30, 2026.

Questions investors ask
Does STXG pay dividends?
Yes. STXG pays dividends quarterly, but they are small. Its trailing 12-month yield was 0.48% as of October 27, 2026, or about $0.27 per share over that period. That's by design: the index favors companies with lower dividend yields, because growth companies tend to reinvest profits instead of paying them out. Investors who need steady income from their holdings may find the payouts too small to matter.
What is the STXG expense ratio?
STXG's expense ratio is 0.18% a year, according to the prospectus filed October 28, 2026. All of it is the management fee, and no fee waiver applies. In the SEC's standard example, $10,000 invested with a 5% annual return would cost about $18 after one year, $58 after three years, $101 after five years and $230 after 10 years, if shares are sold at the end of each period.
What are STXG's top holdings?
As of June 30, 2026, STXG's largest holdings were NVIDIA (9.11%), Apple (8.13%), Microsoft (5.39%), Amazon (4.51%) and Alphabet, whose two share classes totaled about 7.2%. Broadcom, Tesla, Meta Platforms and Eli Lilly followed. The top 10 made up about 45% of the fund, even though it held 704 stocks. Technology was the largest sector at about 41%.
How has STXG performed since it launched?
STXG has had strong results in its short life. The prospectus reports returns of 35.86% in 2023, 28.59% in 2024 and 17.71% in 2025, with an average annual return since inception of 26.88% through December 31, 2025. The fund's market price was up 11.2% for 2026 through October 27. All of this came during a strong stretch for growth stocks, and the fund has not yet been through a bear market.
Is STXG riskier than the overall stock market?
It has been somewhat more volatile than the market. Its beta was 1.22 for the year ended October 27, 2026. Beta compares a fund's swings with the market's, so 1.22 means it tended to move about 22% more than the market in either direction. Its deepest drop was 21.2%, from January to April 2025, and its worst quarter was a 7.77% loss in early 2025. Heavy technology exposure adds sector risk.
