How it works
SHPP is an index fund tracking the Pacer Global Supply Chain Infrastructure Index, built in 2022 by Index Design Group, an affiliate of adviser Pacer Advisors. A company qualifies if it earns at least half its revenue from transportation (air, ocean, rail and truck freight, or couriers), logistics software, logistics hardware such as robotics and forklifts, or supply-chain consulting. It must also be worth at least $1 billion and trade at least $2 million a day on average. The index provider screens candidates by reading filings, analyst reports and trade publications, which involves some judgment.
Stocks are weighted by free-float market capitalization (the value of publicly available shares), so bigger companies get bigger slices. Weights are reset each February, May, August and November so no stock exceeds 10% and those above 4.5% total no more than 45%. Membership is refreshed each May. Weights drift between resets: SAP was 10.2% as of July 31, 2026, and the top 10 holdings made up 56.7%.
The fund generally holds every index stock. It is non-diversified, meaning it may put more in single companies than a diversified fund. As of June 30, 2026, 65 of the index's 98 companies were listed outside the US, so exchange rates affect returns. It held no derivatives as of July 31, 2026.
What it really costs
- SHPP charges 0.6% a year, versus an average of 0.52% for the similar funds below (3rd of 4, cheapest first).
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $61 in the first year and $750 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SHPP | $61 | $192 | $335 | $750 |
In a retirement portfolio
SHPP focuses on one slice of the economy, global freight and logistics, with about 57% of assets in its top 10 holdings as of July 31, 2026, so it fits a small supporting role.
SHPP offers global exposure to railroads, parcel carriers and logistics software, but its record is short. It launched June 8, 2022, missing the 2008 and 2020 crashes and the start of the 2022 bear market. Its deepest drop was 21.6%, from August 12 to September 30, 2022; it recovered by April 17, 2023, about 6.5 months later. Its weakest calendar year, 2024, gained 1.37%. Withdrawing during such a slump means cashing in shares more than a fifth below their peak.
It pays quarterly dividends, yielding 3% over the 12 months to October 27, 2026. Its 0.60% annual fee exceeds the 0.52% peer average; the SEC's standard example puts costs on $10,000 at $61 after one year and $750 after 10 years. Assets were only $2.1 million as of July 31, 2026. Past results don't predict future returns, and planning means looking at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors seeking global exposure to railroads, parcel carriers and logistics software, with only about 41% in US companies as of July 31, 2026.
- Those wanting a focused bet: SAP, ABB and Union Pacific led a top 10 worth about 57% of assets as of July 31, 2026.
- People wanting a small side holding beside a broad core fund, with quarterly dividends; the trailing yield was 3% as of October 27, 2026.
Look elsewhere if
- Cost-focused investors: the 0.60% expense ratio exceeds the 0.52% peer average and the 0.39% charged by iShares US Transportation ETF (IYT).
- Anyone wary of tiny funds: SHPP had about $2.1 million in assets as of July 31, 2026, versus about $2.2 billion for IYT.
- Investors wanting a long record: SHPP launched June 8, 2022, after the 2008 and 2020 crashes and months into the 2022 bear market.

What does SHPP invest in?
SHPP invests in industrials and logistics stocks from around the world, tracking the Pacer Global Supply Chain Infrastructure Index. Companies must earn at least half their revenue from transportation, logistics software, logistics hardware or supply-chain consulting. As of July 31, 2026, it had 113 holdings, led by SAP (10.2%), ABB (9.0%) and Union Pacific (9.0%), then CSX, Canadian Pacific Kansas City and UPS. The US made up about 41% of assets, Germany about 16% and Switzerland about 11%.
What is SHPP's expense ratio?
SHPP's expense ratio, the annual fee taken from fund assets, is 0.60%, according to its prospectus filed August 27, 2026. In the SEC's standard example ($10,000 invested, 5% annual returns), costs would total $61 after one year, $192 after three, $335 after five and $750 after 10. That is above the 0.52% average of three similar funds. The iShares US Transportation ETF (IYT) charges 0.39%; the First Trust Nasdaq Transportation ETF (FTXR) also charges 0.60%.
Does SHPP pay monthly dividends?
No. SHPP pays dividends quarterly, not monthly. As of October 27, 2026, it had paid about $1.04 per share over the prior 12 months, a trailing yield of 3%. Because most of its assets are in non-US companies, payouts can shift with their dividend timing and with exchange rates, so amounts vary. The index picks companies for their supply-chain business, not their dividends, so income is a side effect, not the goal.
How has SHPP performed since it launched?
SHPP gained in each of its three full calendar years, though unevenly. Its prospectus shows returns of 21.09% in 2023, 1.37% in 2024 and 12.77% in 2025, and an average annual return of 7.43% from its June 8, 2022 launch through December 31, 2025. On a price basis, it returned 20.7% from the start of 2026 through October 27, and averaged 17.5% a year over the three years to that date. Past results don't predict future returns.
What's the difference between SHPP and SUPL?
The two are close: both target supply-chain and logistics stocks, and about 55% of their holdings overlap. The differences are cost and results. ProShares Supply Chain Logistics ETF (SUPL) charges 0.58% versus SHPP's 0.60%. As of October 27, 2026, SHPP returned 24.2% over one year versus 21.1% for SUPL, and 17.5% a year over three years versus 12.8%. Both are very small: SUPL had about $2.4 million in assets as of August 31, 2026, and SHPP about $2.1 million as of July 31, 2026.
