  • Monthly total returns reported for that quarter: +7.14%, +11.07%, -3.02%.

How it works

ITEQ tracks the BlueStar Israel Global Technology Index. BlueStar Indexes created the index, MarketVector maintains it and S&P Dow Jones Indices calculates it. To qualify, a company must work in information technology, biotechnology (including medical devices), defense and security technology, clean energy or water technology. It must also have ties to Israel. One strong link is enough, such as being incorporated or headquartered there. Otherwise it needs two weaker links, such as an Israeli research center or being founded in Israel. That is how companies classed as US-based can get in. Palo Alto Networks was the largest holding, at 9.2% as of June 30, 2026.

Stocks must also pass size and trading screens. These include a market value of at least $150 million and a free float of at least 10%. Free float means the shares available to outside investors. Holdings are weighted by float-adjusted market value. Each stock is capped at 7.5%, and stocks weighing 5% or more can total no more than 50%. The index rebalances on the second Friday of June and December. Weights drift between those dates, so a stock can rise above the cap.

Amplify, with sub-adviser Tidal Investments, aims to hold every stock in the index in the same proportions, though it may hold a sample instead. It makes no defensive moves when markets fall. It is non-diversified, so a few stocks can sway results.

What it really costs

  • ITEQ charges 0.75% a year, versus an average of 0.56% for the similar funds below (4th of 4, cheapest first).
  • Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $77 in the first year and $930 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
Cost of $10,000 (SEC example)1 yr3 yrs5 yrs10 yrs

In a retirement portfolio

RoleSatellite (higher risk)

It is a narrow, volatile bet on Israel-linked technology companies, with costs above similar funds and very little income.

ITEQ could be a small add-on to a diversified core. It adds targeted exposure to Israel-linked tech, defense and clean energy stocks. It launched in 2015, so it has no record from 2008. In the 2020 COVID crash it fell 36.5% but recovered in about 2.5 months. In the 2022 bear market it fell 33.2% and took about 39.5 months to recover, until January 2026. Its worst calendar year was 2022, when it lost 30.3%. Its deepest drop was 54.6%, from February 2021 to October 2023. It had not regained that February 2021 peak as of October 27, 2026. Anyone who has to sell shares in a slump could lock in steep losses.

It is not built for income. Its trailing 12-month yield was 0.78% as of October 27, 2026, paid once a year. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.

Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere

May suit

  • Investors who want a small, targeted stake in Israel-linked tech, defense and clean energy companies such as Tower Semiconductor, Elbit Systems and Check Point.
  • People who prefer a rules-based index fund that rebalances only twice a year and had 19% portfolio turnover.
  • Long-term holders who can ride out drops like its 54.6% fall from February 2021 to October 2023 without needing to sell.

Look elsewhere if

  • Cost-focused investors: its 0.75% expense ratio is above ISRA and EIS (0.59%) and IZRL (0.49%).
  • Retirees seeking income: the trailing yield was 0.78% as of October 27, 2026, paid only once a year.
  • Anyone uneasy about concentrated, volatile funds: it is non-diversified, its top 10 holdings were 42% of assets, and its 2022 loss took 39.5 months to recover.

Questions investors ask

Is ITEQ good for retirement?

It may suit only a small slice of a retirement portfolio. ITEQ lost 30.3% in 2022 and took about 39.5 months to recover from that bear market. Its deepest drop was 54.6%, from February 2021 to October 2023, and it had not regained that peak as of October 27, 2026. It yields little, at 0.78%, and costs 0.75% a year. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio.

What's the difference between ITEQ and ISRA?

ITEQ costs more and has trailed. Both funds hold Israeli stocks, and their holdings overlap by about 49%. ITEQ's index is limited to technology, biotech, defense, clean energy and water technology companies. ITEQ charges 0.75% a year, against 0.59% for VanEck Israel ETF (ISRA). As of October 27, 2026, ISRA's one-year return was 25.5%, against 5.9% for ITEQ. Its three-year figure was 37.2%, against ITEQ's 20.7%. ISRA had $153 million in net assets and ITEQ had $120 million.

Does ITEQ pay dividends?

Yes, but only a little, and only once a year. The trailing 12-month yield was 0.78% as of October 27, 2026, or about $0.49 per share. Many of the fund's holdings are growth-focused technology companies, so dividends are a small part of its return. Investors who need regular income from their portfolio would have to rely on other holdings or on selling shares.

What is ITEQ's expense ratio?

ITEQ's expense ratio is 0.75%, according to its prospectus filed January 28, 2026, and there is no fee waiver. That is the highest of the four Israel funds compared, whose other three average 0.56%. In the SEC's standard example, $10,000 earning 5% a year would pay about $77 in costs after one year, $417 after five years and $930 after ten years.

Why does ITEQ own Palo Alto Networks if it's an Israel fund?

The index includes companies based outside Israel if they have strong enough ties to it. A company needs one strong link, such as being incorporated or headquartered in Israel. Otherwise it needs two weaker links, such as an Israeli research center, an Israeli founding or an Israeli stock listing. The prospectus doesn't say which test each company meets. As of June 30, 2026, Palo Alto Networks was the largest holding, at 9.2%, and companies classed as US-based made up about 32% of assets.
