How it works
ICLO is actively managed, not index-based. Normally at least 80% of net assets sit in floating-rate notes from collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) rated AAA, the top credit grade, when bought. A CLO is a trust that pools corporate loans, including low-rated loans, and sells debt in layers called tranches. The AAA layer is paid first, so lower layers take losses before it. Interest on these notes resets with short-term rates, which tends to limit rate-driven price swings.
The sub-adviser, Invesco Senior Secured Management, pairs a big-picture economic view with deal-by-deal credit analysis. Up to 15% may go into AA-rated notes, the next grade down; it buys nothing lower. Unrated notes the sub-adviser judges AAA-equivalent count toward the 80%. The fund mainly buys CLOs of large loans, typically over $250 million each; CLOs of smaller, middle-market loans and fixed-rate notes are each capped at 15%.
Up to 20% may be in foreign-currency CLOs. The fund may hedge that currency risk with forwards or futures, the only derivatives it may use. As of July 31, 2026, it held about 150 securities; the 10 largest positions made up 22.8% of assets, led by Elmwood CLO 29 at 3.8%. Turnover, the share of holdings replaced in a year, was 61%, per the February 2026 prospectus.
What it really costs
- ICLO charges 0.19% a year, versus an average of 0.31% for the similar funds below (5th of 8, cheapest first).
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $19 in the first year and $242 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ICLO | $19 | $61 | $107 | $242 |
Structure and tax notes
- Bond prices move opposite to interest rates; the longer the maturities it holds, the more its price reacts to rate changes.
In a retirement portfolio
Its stated goal is current income and capital preservation, and it pays monthly from top-rated floating-rate CLO notes.
ICLO could be an income holding that aims to keep its value steady. Its trailing 12-month yield was 4.7% as of October 27, 2026, and it pays monthly. It charges 0.19% a year, which works out to $242 over 10 years in the SEC's standard $10,000 example. It launched in December 2022, so it has no record through the 2008 crisis, the 2020 COVID crash or the 2022 bear market. Its weakest calendar year was 2025, and that was still a 5.4% gain, per the prospectus. Its deepest drop was 3.5%, from March 3 to April 4, 2025, and it was back to its old high by April 24. Someone who may need to sell in a bad year should know it hasn't been tested in a deep credit crisis. Its income would also fall if short-term rates dropped. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Income seekers wanting monthly payouts tied to short-term rates; the trailing yield was 4.7% as of October 27, 2026.
- Bond investors wary of rising rates who prefer floating coupons over long fixed-rate bonds, while staying in AAA- and AA-rated CLO notes.
- Cost-conscious investors: its 0.19% expense ratio is below the 0.31% average of the floating-rate funds it was matched with.
Look elsewhere if
- Anyone wanting a record through a severe credit crisis; it launched in December 2022, after 2008, 2020 and the 2022 bear market.
- Investors wanting income locked in if rates fall; floating coupons reset lower, and the prospectus flags income, call and reinvestment risk.
- Those wanting government-backed safety; CLOs pool corporate loans, many below investment grade, and the sub-adviser may rate some holdings itself.

Questions investors ask
Does ICLO pay monthly dividends?
Yes. ICLO pays distributions every month. Over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, it paid about $1.20 per share, a trailing yield of 4.7%. The fund holds floating-rate notes whose interest resets with short-term rates, so the payout is not fixed. The prospectus warns that the fund's income may decline when interest rates fall.
Can ICLO lose money?
Yes, though its swings have been small so far. Its deepest drop was 3.5%, from March 3 to April 4, 2025, and it recovered by April 24. Its three-year volatility was 2.5% as of October 27, 2026. But it launched in December 2022, so a deep credit crisis hasn't tested it. CLOs pool corporate loans, many rated below investment grade. A AAA rating offers protection, not a guarantee.
ICLO vs PFRL: what's the difference?
Cost is the clearest difference. ICLO charges 0.19% a year, and PGIM Floating Rate Income ETF (PFRL) charges 0.72%. ICLO sticks to AAA- and AA-rated CLO notes. PFRL was matched by average maturity and issuer mix, not by strategy, so its holdings differ. As of October 27, 2026, PFRL returned 5.0% over one year and 7.7% a year over three. ICLO returned 4.8% and 6.1%. Each prospectus explains what drives these results.
How do interest rates affect ICLO?
Less than most bond funds, at least in price. Its notes pay floating rates that reset from time to time, so its price reacts less to rate changes than fixed-rate bonds do. That holds even though the average maturity was 11.4 years as of July 31, 2026. The trade-off is income: when short-term rates fall, its payouts fall too. Issuers may also call, or repay early, higher-paying notes when rates drop.
What is ICLO's expense ratio?
ICLO's expense ratio is 0.19%, per its prospectus filed February 26, 2026, with no fee waiver. In the SEC's standard example, $10,000 earning 5% a year would cost about $19 in the first year, $107 over five years and $242 over 10 years. That is below the 0.31% average of the floating-rate funds it was matched with. VanEck IG Floating Rate ETF (FLTR) charges less, at 0.14%.
