How it works
FDLS aims to match the WI Fidelis Multi-Cap, Multi-Factor Index before fees. It generally keeps at least 80% of its assets in the index's stocks. To qualify, a company must be listed on a major US exchange and be worth at least $250 million. Listed shares include ADRs (American Depositary Receipts), which are US-traded shares of foreign companies. The index leaves out limited partnerships, companies based in China, makers of military weapons, and medical facilities that provide abortions.
Each stock also needs an Inspire Impact Score of zero or higher. The adviser, Inspire Investing, LLC, created this score. A company gets a negative score if it is tied to areas the adviser sees as conflicting with biblical values. These include abortifacients, abortion activism, alcohol, cannabis, gambling, embryonic stem cells, in vitro fertilization and LGBT activism. The prospectus says the score reflects the adviser's own view. It also says the score may miss some company activities and may lag new information.
Last, a stock must rank in the top 60% on value, growth and momentum combined, and not in the bottom 20% on any one of them. Value means cheap relative to earnings or assets. Momentum means strong recent price gains. As of August 31, 2026, the fund held 101 stocks, and 76.73% of assets were in US companies. Turnover was 233% in the prospectus year. That means the fund replaced its holdings more than twice, and trading costs from that aren't included in the expense ratio.
What it really costs
- FDLS charges 0.66% a year, versus an average of 0.58% for the similar funds below (5th of 6, cheapest first).
- Of that, 0.45% is the management fee; the rest covers other fund expenses.
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $67 in the first year and $822 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FDLS | $67 | $211 | $368 | $822 |
In a retirement portfolio
It is a small, high-turnover fund with a narrow values screen and a short record, so it fits better beside a broad core holding than as one.
FDLS could add a values-screened sleeve of factor-picked stocks next to a broad core fund. It launched in August 2022, so its record doesn't cover the 2008 crisis, the 2020 COVID crash or the 2022 bear market. Its deepest drop was 23.3%, from November 25, 2024 to April 8, 2025. It got back to its old high by July 3, 2025, 2.8 months after the low. Its weakest calendar year, 2024, still ended up 7.4%. Its one-year beta was 1.01 as of October 27, 2026, which means it moved about in step with the market. A retiree selling in a slump could take losses similar to the stock market's. Income is small: the yield was 0.84% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors who want stocks screened by Inspire's biblical-values criteria and accept the adviser's own judgment on what counts as a violation.
- Investors comfortable with about 100 lesser-known names, such as Aveanna Healthcare and Par Pacific, with no stock above 1.7% as of August 31, 2026.
- Long-term holders of a small satellite position who can live with drops like the 23.3% fall from November 2024 to April 2025.
Look elsewhere if
- Cost-focused investors: the 0.66% expense ratio is above the 0.58% average for similar funds, and SMDX charges 0.35%.
- Income seekers: the yield was only 0.84% as of October 27, 2026, paid quarterly.
- Investors who want a long track record or low trading: launched in August 2022, with 233% turnover in the prospectus year.

Questions investors ask
Is FDLS a Christian ETF?
Yes. FDLS uses what its adviser, Inspire Investing, calls a biblically responsible approach. Every stock needs an Inspire Impact Score of zero or higher. Companies tied to abortion, alcohol, gambling, cannabis, embryonic stem cells, in vitro fertilization or LGBT activism are screened out. The prospectus says the score reflects the adviser's own view. It also says the screen may miss some company activities, and other investors may draw the lines differently.
How has FDLS performed since it launched?
It has roughly kept pace with global stocks over one year but trailed them since launch. Through December 31, 2025, FDLS returned 22.37% over one year. The S&P Global 1200 Index returned 23.03% and the MSCI ACWI Index 22.34%. Since its August 2022 launch, FDLS averaged 14.26% a year. Its own index averaged 15.54% and the S&P Global 1200 averaged 18.03%. On a price basis, FDLS gained 18.6% in the year to October 27, 2026.
Does FDLS pay dividends?
Yes, FDLS pays dividends every quarter, but they are small. Over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, it paid $0.35 per share, for a yield of 0.84%. The fund picks stocks for value, growth and momentum, not for income. Investors who need regular cash from their portfolio may find this yield low compared with dividend-focused funds.
What is the FDLS expense ratio?
The FDLS expense ratio is 0.66%, according to the prospectus filed March 26, 2026. That includes a 0.45% management fee. The 0.66% is above the 0.58% average for similar funds and ranks 5th of 6 on cost. In the SEC's standard example, $10,000 earning 5% a year would cost about $67 after one year, $368 after five years and $822 after ten. The fund's 233% turnover also creates trading costs that aren't in that figure.
What's the difference between FDLS and SMDX?
SMDX, the Intech S&P Small-Mid Cap Diversified Alpha ETF, costs less but isn't a close copy. It shares the most holdings with FDLS of any similar fund, and the overlap is still only 10%. SMDX charges 0.35% a year, compared with 0.66% for FDLS. FDLS gained 18.6% over the year to October 27, 2026, and SMDX gained 14.2%. The main thing that sets FDLS apart is its biblical-values screen.
