How it works
BSVO does not track an index. ETF Architect runs the fund, and Bridgeway Capital Management picks the stocks. Bridgeway ranks small companies on value measures, which compare a stock's price with what the company owns or earns: price to book value, earnings, sales or cash flow. The cheapest qualify. Under normal conditions, at least 80% of net assets go into small-cap value stocks. The fund defines these by company size and by earnings-to-price and book-to-market ratios.
Holdings are weighted roughly by market value, so larger companies get bigger slices. Several adjustments apply. Single positions are capped. Weights can be cut for companies with weaker environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings, or raised for stronger ones. Bridgeway can also tilt weights by amounts its own research sets. The word "omni" reflects the goal of holding enough names to mirror small-cap value stocks as a whole. The prospectus gives no fixed rebalancing schedule. Portfolio turnover, the share of holdings replaced in a year, was 19%.
This is a plain stock fund, with no leverage or options strategy. As of June 30, 2026, about 13% of assets sat in companies based outside the US, mainly Bermuda and the Marshall Islands. These include tanker firms International Seaways and Scorpio Tankers. The same report showed about 10% in cash. That appears to be collateral from lending shares to other investors, not money waiting to be invested.
What it really costs
- BSVO charges 0.45% a year.
- Using the prospectus's standard example, $10,000 invested would cost about $46 in the first year and $567 over 10 years (assuming a 5% annual return).
| Cost of $10,000 (SEC example) | 1 yr | 3 yrs | 5 yrs | 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BSVO | $46 | $144 | $252 | $567 |
In a retirement portfolio
It adds small-company value stocks that large-cap index funds hold little of, but it swings more sharply and has leaned toward one sector.
BSVO could broaden a portfolio built on large US companies. The ETF's own price history starts in 2023, so it doesn't cover the 2008, 2020 or 2022 downturns. The prospectus record goes back to years before the ETF launched. It shows a 16.08% loss in 2018 and a 5.01% loss in 2022. It also shows a 42.37% drop in the first quarter of 2020, though the fund ended that year down just 1.86%. Since launch, its deepest fall was 28.7%, from November 25, 2024 to April 8, 2025. It took about 7.9 months to regain its peak, on December 3, 2025. Anyone drawing money during a slump like that would be locking in losses. Income is modest: a 1.21% yield as of October 27, 2026, paid once a year. Fees are 0.45%, or $46 in the first year on $10,000. Past results don't predict the future, and a plan should look at the whole portfolio, not one fund.
Who it may suit — and who should look elsewhere
May suit
- Investors who want broad small-cap value exposure across 634 stocks, with no single holding above about 1.05% as of June 30, 2026.
- Long-term holders who can ride out steep drops, like the 42.37% fall in early 2020, in exchange for a small-company value tilt.
- People willing to pay 0.45% a year for an active, statistics-driven process that beat the Russell 2000 Value Index over 5 and 10 years through 2025.
Look elsewhere if
- Retirees seeking steady income: the yield was 1.21% as of October 27, 2026, paid only once a year.
- Investors wanting limited financial-sector exposure; the process has leaned toward banks, insurers and lenders such as WesBanco, BankUnited and Enova.
- Those wanting broad-market returns: the fund returned 9.59% a year over 10 years through 2025, versus 14.29% for the Russell 3000 Index.

Questions investors ask
Is BSVO an index fund?
No. BSVO is actively managed and does not try to copy an index. Bridgeway Capital Management, the sub-adviser, ranks small companies on value measures such as price to earnings and price to book. It then holds a broad group of roughly 600 to 700 of them. Stocks are weighted mostly by market value, with caps on position size, ESG-based adjustments and tilts from Bridgeway's own research. The prospectus compares the fund with the Russell 2000 Value Index.
What are BSVO's top holdings?
As of June 30, 2026, the largest holdings were Viasat (1.05%), Victoria's Secret (1.03%), Sphere Entertainment (0.82%), Enova International (0.82%) and Bread Financial (0.76%). The fund held 634 stocks, and its top 10 made up only 7.97% of assets, so no single company drives results. Banks and other financial firms such as WesBanco, BankUnited and First Financial Bancorp feature heavily, reflecting the fund's lean toward the financials sector.
How does BSVO compare with the Russell 2000 Value Index?
BSVO trailed the index over one year but beat it over longer stretches, as of December 31, 2025. The fund returned 9.33% over one year, versus 12.59% for the Russell 2000 Value Index. Over five years it averaged 13.32% a year against 8.88%, and over 10 years 9.59% against 9.27%. The index figures include no fees. The longer fund record covers years before the ETF launched on March 13, 2023.
Does BSVO pay dividends?
Yes, but only once a year, and the amount is small. Over the 12 months to October 27, 2026, BSVO paid about $0.35 per share, a yield of 1.21%. The fund aims for long-term total return mainly through rising share prices, not income. Investors who need regular cash flow would get little of it here. Small value companies often pay dividends, but this fund passes them on once a year, not every month or quarter.
What is BSVO's expense ratio?
BSVO's expense ratio is 0.45% a year, according to its prospectus filed October 28, 2026. All of it is the management fee, with no fee waiver. Under the SEC's standard example, someone who invests $10,000 and earns 5% a year would pay about $46 after one year, $144 after three years, $252 after five years and $567 after 10 years. That example assumes the shares are cashed out at the end of each period.
